Looks like there trying to get it back in shape
Great layout the views where nice there are a lot of forced carry holes. So I wouldn't recommend this course to beginners. You need to hit good shots or you will lose balls (like I did lol) . It is in a housing community but the houses aren't on top of you which I like . All in all I will definitely play this course again
The course is coming back to life!
The course was in good shape. The greens had some issues with holes and some bare spots but they are working on getting the course back in shape. The course has a great layout with some interesting and challenging holes. All in all it has great character and is worth the drive up 95 to play.
Poor Conditions
Had heard the course wasn't in great shape, so I called and they said it was fine. Not true. A disaster. Brown blotches all over the greens and fairways. Grass not cut on the greens. Tee boxes in poor shape. Really frustrating situation, because the layout is strong.
Difficult Summer
I played the course last summer after the course had recently been taken over and improvements were under way.
Unfortunately, the hot spell in August has taken its toll and a number of greens and fairways have been hit hard.
The ground-staff are in the process of making repairs but it will take until next spring/summer for the full effect to be felt.
I really hope the course survives as the area needs good quality, cost-effective, challenging golf courses and I admire the new owners for taking on the challenge.
Nice design but
This course is well designed but needs a lot of work. The tees and greens are very poor. Fairways are ok. Would be a very good course if all the flaws were fixed.
Hopefully it will get better?
Course is in real bad shape right now. Bare spots on most all greens filled w/sand. Most of the tee boxes are bare or just weeded. Course was in great shape in the Spring. They must of got some kind of fungus. Staff is always very friendly there.Great layout so I still enjoy playing there but would not recommend it right now.
Disappointed visit
Played here last year, course needed alot of work, back again, course in worst shape, from tee to green, grass either burnt out or dead from either over watering or fertilizing.
Disappointing
Some type of fungus has taken over this otherwise beautiful golf course. It was very disappointing since I travelled over 100 miles to play.
Great layout, poor conditions
Much of the course has been hit with high heat and intermittent heavy rain. Although a great layout, it will need a super effort to regrass many fairways and greens.
Course has seen better days
Tees and greens have sparse coverage. Looks like everything was flooded out or got diseased.
Luckily I snagged a $15 green fee or I would have been bummed.
Great layout, terrible conditions.
This course had a great layout, but I some places it looks like it was seeded with crab grass. That is of course if you are lucky enough to have grass. There may be a fungus problem. The problem is everywhere from the tee boxes to the green. The superintendent should be replaced.
A Mess
I was sadly disappointed in the condition of the course. I have played here about 3 years ago and really enjoyed the course. This past round the course was in dismal condition the greens were awful ( dried out and torn up) and the fairways were a mess. There was trash littered throught the wood lining of the course. Luckily I got a hot deal from golf now and played for a discount price because there is no way I would have paid full price to play this course. This has gone from one of my favorite courses to a course that I will no longer play. Extremely disappointed. I recommended to my father that we play this course because I had liked in the past and he was very disappointed in the course as well.
Thanks for the input. The course has been hit by the month long high humidity and extremely hot conditions.(Not unlike what had happened to Baltusrol at the PGA championship...and they had an unlimited budget!) The course is beginning to bounce back already with the temps and humidity lowering. Some of the spots on the greens are by golfers who are dragging their feet! We are still trying to overcome years of neglect and poor maintenance to the course. We will do all we can to keep Patriots Glen National GC in the best condition possible!
Thanks! WH
Could be great
First the good news: Patriots Glen is a VERY good, challenging and interesting layout.
Possibly 5 stars. The 130 slope for the White tees (6,405 yards) is well-deserved. Most fairways fairly generous but lined by woods (not just trees); lots of bunkers, some forced carries, dog-legs, elevation changes.
Now the bad news: The greens need significant work. They were generally hairy, soft and spotty.
I understand this course was closed for about 2 seasons, and probably got zero maintenance, and reopened about a year ago. The new operator still has a ways to go to get the greens in proper shape. Also, the grass around some of the greens was spotty/clumpy. However, the fairways and tees were in good shape.
Nevertheless, given its potential, I’m giving the course 4 stars out of five.
You can’t beat it for my $18.49 Hot Deal.
Good last month
This course was in good shape last month, but recently it is falling off. The greens were riddled with spike marks and in need of aeration. Fairways were also in need of some attention. Hopefully the staff puts some work in, because it is a very nice layout.
Time to play Patriots Glen again
New mgmt has done a great job of getting the course back in shape.
How far is the pin? Or green?
The course has really come back. Conditions are very good and the greens are rolling well. I like the layout and challenge of the course. My one big problem with this course is yardage markers. If you have a GPS App on your phone you will be ok and checking it often. If not, good luck. I found myself looking for cart path marks, NONE. Stakes, NONE. There are small markers in the middle. Once you actually find one you might be ok. Don't bother with sprinkler heads, nothing on them.
Hi,
Thanks for coming out! We are in the process of marking the course so yardages are easy to find. We just marked the cart Paths and added a 150 Stake to the side of the cart paths. The pins are a different story. They are denoted by a cap on the stake either red, for front, white=middle and Blue for a back pin.
Thanks again for your support! WH
mixed bag but great value
I had not played Patriots Glen in many years and read some decent reviews and decided to give it a try. I got an amazingly low price from golfnow.com which really made me smile. First of all, Patriots Glen is a really great layout with almost all holes framed by tall pines. You just don't see courses like that anymore. The tee boxes and fairways were in good shape and you got plenty of roll in the fairway. Where the course needs work is with the greens. The greens were covered with sand and as hard as a rock. A well struck short iron will not hold so you must play everything short of the pin. Is the course worth playing if you are a good player? Yes it is and hopefully, the course will work on the greens and get them back in better shape as this course could jump back into one of the better publics in the area if they do that.
Pleasantly surprised!!
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised in the improvement of the course since I lasted played in March 2016. Please keep up the good work , I will return.
Great Course Poor Staff
We arrived for our 0740 tee time. We entered the Golf shop to check in. The Individual who check our tee time reservations could have been a little friendlier. There was no Hi or Hello. The other issue was three of members of our group including myself used Golf Now to book tee times. The fourth person didn’t so he had to pay full price, luckily he was a Veteran so he received a 10 % discount. My feeling is he could have been charged the same rate as the three of us. He should’ve not had to ask for a Military Discount. The Rounds were going very until a man showed up at the 16th hole in a cart and started to rush us through and continued to harass us for the few holes. He stated that “our time was up”. This we found was unacceptable. We had golfers’ two holes behind us. We didn’t start at exactly 0740 and we let a twosome play through our first hole. The course is making a comeback PLEASE DON’T LET BAD STAFF SPOIL THE EXPERIENCE. Thanks

Funny...how can you afford to fix anything when you pay $15???? Be part of the solution not part of the problem!!!
