The Savannahs Golf Course
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Enjoyable
Was a challenging, but fun course. Recommend it! Only part that was frustrating is the first hole was labeled as the 10th hole. We drove around a bit looking for hole 1 until someone told us 10 was 1. The rest of the holes were labeled correctly. Was frustrated mainly because neither the pro shop nor the starter told us that 10th hole was actually number 1. The sign needs to be updated immediately. Otherwise, loved the course! We are going back soon!
Okay Play for the Money
So overall, not a bad course or great course. Fairways a little dead due to the freeze, some bare spots. Green are good. Bunkers tend to have a heavier sand than the fluffy sand at some courses. Cart and gps were great. Staff and beverage girl very friendly. This is a challenging play from the gold tees. Overall it is a decent play for the money.
Not bad but annoying
The carts will lock out and force you to reverse when it doesn’t make sense. They also periodically make a loud ding and give you advertisements. A couple of greens were in rough shape.
Great golf course
I will be sore to keep this course on my list ti play.
Improving
New ownership is doing a good job bringing the course back. It was neglected the last couple of years. I played after a long dry spell and all was well but in the past this course had some soggy areas after some rains. Will try it again after some rain
Space Coast Golf
The course has stayed static since the last ownership change. The greens are slowly improving but they need to concentrate on getting the invasive grass out of the greens
Go somewhere else
Unfortunately, it’s just not worth it. I’ve played this course four different times and have never had a good experience. Despite the change in ownership, nothing has improved. This was my first visit back since the switch, hoping for a better outcome, but the cost has increased, the pace of play remains very slow, and the overall atmosphere is unwelcoming EVERY TIME by other golfers. Taken together, it makes for a disappointing experience. I would much rather play elsewhere in Brevard County.
