The Savannahs Golf Course
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Great course
This course was in perfect condition. Thanks to the friendliest staff, it really made my day and was the best golf experience that I've had in a long time.
Best scramble ever!!!
Found this course on a scramble hunter website. Played the course for my first time ever. This was the most fun and fairest scramble I’ve ever played in. There wasn’t a -22 or -27 that won. The best scores were -15 and -14. They even flighted the whole event. People who shot -3 won their flight. Can’t wait to come back and play this course again!!!
PS, tell the Superintendent he’s got amazing greens for central Florida in the summertime
Wow!!! Great conditions and fun!
Course is in the best condition in many many years. Greens are in great shape. Looking forward to my next visit, cart girl and staff were super friendly.
Fun Layout
Played the course for the first time today with my son. Course was in great shape. Greens were rolling great. The layout makes you think. You can lay up or chance going in water. I will be back, even though it’s a little over an hour drive. Plus, the guys in the clubhouse were very helpful.
Sooooooooo slow
This is a really cool course. Tight with lots of water. But the pace of place is HORRIBLE over one hour to play 5 holes
Delayed starts
Savannahs offered tee times every 8 minutes between 0630 and 0700, but they won't let anyone off of the 1st tee until 0700. Which means they plan to back the course up right out of the gate, and that makes no sense. We were the 0638 tee time. The course itself was in very good condition and the greens were great. The water jugs on the course were close to empty and still had water from the day before in them, pretty much undrinkable. When we finished the 1st tee was still 3 deep, so they never caught up from holding the early tee times up.
Has lots of Potential!
I played 18 holes starting off in the morning. Course was wide open with practically no one playing. Staff was very friendly and spoke about major renovations that would be occurring with no date yet. The place is due for an overhaul. Clubhouse is very outdated and needs renovated. Not much of a pro shop inside. Front 9 was nicely laid out. Greens are in great shape but fairways do have areas that need work. Back 9 is where the renovations really need to be made. Tee boxes in bad shape and fairways are just fields. Sidewalks are either falling apart or just dirt/ gravel. Not as well laid out like the front is.
Enjoyed the round though and will be back. Hopefully they start renovating soon.
Great value
I have read a lot of reviews trashing this course. Yes the fairways have some bare spots and almost half of the tee boxes are in rough shape, but overall this is a great course. First of all the staff is exceptionally friendly. Being a first time customer, they were very helpful and gave me a lot of information on the course. It is a challenging course with narrow fairways and a LOT of water. It is a very pretty course with an abundance of wildlife. Best of all, the twilight rate is only $17. I have no idea what some people are griping about.
Shockingly poor condition
I have played this course probably 50 plus times over the last twenty years but I have not played it in probably five years. The course is in terrible shape. The tee boxes are all crowned and mostly dirt and weeds with some grass. The fairways are about the same with a lot of dirt and not a lot of grass. The best grass on the entire place is on the greens with one problem........they are same thickness that the fairways should be. You have to hit the ball like you are putting from 30 feet in order to get it to the hole on a 10 foot put. I was just really shocked at what poor shape the course was in. I thought it was odd that we pulled up on a Friday morning and there were only four or five cars on the parking lot and we only saw two other groups on the course when we teed off. I know there has been a lot of turnover here with management over the years but with this shape, I'm surprised they can even stay open. They could drop the price to ten dollars and the frustration still wouldn't be worth it. Don't waste your time.
Decent course on Merrit Island
Was looking for a decent course in the Cocoa Beach area and had read mixed reviews on the course.
Very windy conditions although being a bit sheltered inland helped. Lots of water and tight fairways. The greens had been recently sanded and were a bit rough in spots. They need to get the weeds off the greens. Some wet areas from recent rain, but not a bad experience overall. Would like to see more fairway grass but that will come hopefully in the weeks ahead. One foursome held up three groups behind and no Marshal to move them along. 4 1/2 hours which seemed longer as the back nine dragged on.
