The Savannahs Golf Course
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Savanah's a good value course
This course has lots of water on the front nine and some on the back 9. It was windy and tough to play into the wind. Fairways a little sparse in spots. Greens ok but slow.
Hot Humid day and lots of mosquitos
We played at 10:56 after dayight saving time ended so about middle part of day. Finished in 3.5 hrs.
Mosquitos were voracious - followed us in the cart, got about 5 bites even though I used spray. Very little wind and humid conditions brought them out in droves. Greens were cut quite long - may not have been cut in a while -. Tough to putt. Fairways were pretty good thanks to a lot of rain in the past week or 2.
mosquitos
It was horrible to play there with all the mosquitos on the course. We where anxious to finish the game. The course is good but it was horrible. Sorry!
Great layout shot makers coarse
Give the guys a big hand on the cleanup from the hurricane big difference in just a week that I played it. Other than a group of 5 they let play. I had a great time
Good signs pf improvement
Excellent that the 'death-traps' of weed & stones are finally receiving attention!
Why not put divot repair sand on both sides of carts to help maintenance?
Why not put 'cart- path only' signs when required, as some golfers dont receive &/or remember the warning?
Thanks for the course improvements, & thanks 'golf-now' for the booking convenience & occasional 'hot-deal'.
Never again
The course was in horrific condition. The man at the pro shop was as rude as can be. I had a golfnow tee time and I arrived early. Since there was no one waiting and no one in view on the first few holes, I asked if I could go out. This was met with a gruff "no,you are a golgnow tee time only and will have to wait" This course used to have great greens but no more. If Brevard County closes courses like they say,I predict this one being closed.
Very wet and greens were fair at best
I later found out that range balls were free with purchase of game. They charged me 3 dollars and said that was 2 dollars off. No cart girl, I guess that is only on weekends. I golfed the coarse 2 years ago and it was in good shape. Not the same experience this time. Very wet and shotty greens. They should off been in great shape since they were air raided over a month ago. Considering the hurricane I will put that in consideration. Even taking 90•degree turns on the fair way I still felt that I was tearing up the fair way, they were soaked. Thank god for dry joys. Lol. For the price through hot deals I will play it again. I would never pay full price. On the plus it was wide open and very scenic which made it very relaxing. Still walked away with a 89 from the blues. I was happy about that considering the conditions. I felt cheated on my drives leaving a long second shot. For some reason I putted great that day or I would of golfed a 99.
The course needs TLC..
The staff is very helpful. The course is very wet, needs something to get people there.
Greens in bad shape
Really enjoyed my recent round of golf. Fairways were being mowed but not a big distraction. However, the Greens, were terrible. Probably understandable with all the recent rains. A beautiful place to play. We did have some locals try to cut in front of us but when we objected they did defer to us.
Attitude
Golf Now booking system here makes it attractive for me to golf here regularly.
The course layout & the staff friendliness are also important attributes.
Management, though, treats you like 2nd class if you are a "Hot-Deal" customer.
Perhaps their profit is low with us several, but I don't get this feeling at other courses. Often the opposite.
In spite of this, I will continue to golf here, due to the overall experience.
Looking forward to drying weather soon for overall course improvement .
Needs help
The course drains very poorly. Wet marshy lands abound in the rough. If you aren't in the fairway you will either lose a ball in the water or in a mudhole. For a consistent low handicapper they may enjoy the layout. That is, until you get to the greens. They aren't any better. Patchy in parts. This course needs rehab. Better off playing Vista East or Duran. You will pay twice to three times more but at least you will enjoy the round.
Disappointing
On arrival we were informed that due to renovations we would have to go back to the main round to get some food. The course was very wet and not enjoyable to play. Having played this course in the past we were left feeling disappointed.
BE STRAIGHT OR BE WET
Cart paths are still back- breakers in many places, in spite of a few repair efforts. It wouldnt take many bags of cement to make a big improvement.
More sand availability for divot repair is needed at the turn as I like to take care of fairways. (Which are needing care in lots of areas still)
Greens were surprisingly ok even a few days after aeration process, so should be good soon.
Check-in staff great, as are most starters, (but for one usually grumpy guy).
In general&overall, I love this place & golf here regularly & will continue as long as ny back holds out.
Great layout
Course just reopened previous Saturday from hurricane damage ,still a work in progress in some areas, played from back tees 6400 + playes much longer, water in play on 14+ holes ,great staff since new ownership took over
Course was in great condition
Hurricane Irma may have roared through and left devastation in her wake, but the Savannah's crew did a great job getting the course ready to play. The greens were a little rough, but that was to be expected because of all the water Irma left behind. Overall, the course was in great shape. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
All in all and outstanding time was enjoyed by all.
Impressive
It's only been 3 weeks since Hurricane Irma went through. The cleanup was still going on. The shape that the course was in was extremely impressive. You could see the amount of work it had to of taken to get the course into the shape it was in. My compliments to the Management and staff. I'm looking forward to playing this course again in the future, I can only image how nice it will be once the cleanup is complete.
Management
We had arrived little early and asked if we could get out before the storm the starter was very nice and let us go then out come the GM approached us and said we can not ask to go early when we only pay 10 dollars on Labor Day I was very angry after that so I will not be going back to that course
