The Savannahs Golf Course
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Very hot and humid day
Some fairways had serious issues, greens were decent. Some construction work was being done on the sprinkler system and caused a little bit of a problem. Overall for a county owned course, the place is still a fun and challenging place to play. More distance markers on the course would be nice, especially on 4 and 5.
Course under irrigation rennovation
Course is undergoing major irrigation rennovation causing many of the fairways to contain a lot of bare spots. One hole is completely closed down thereby a player will only play 17 different holes but can simulate 18 holes by playing one with two balls. At this time the course would be better off shutting down (at least 9 holes at a time) to complete the rennovations required. I do not recommend playing this course at this time.
Course can be very wet so avoid playing it when it has rained alot.
This is an interesting course. However it is suffering due to the excessive amount of rain we have had. Also the staff does not communicate very well. Don't try to play late in the day, They close early. Called an made a 5:30 tee time (gets dark around 8:45), went in to pay, then proceeded to the starter. The starter informs me I can only play 9 holes because it was too late in the day. I said what if I play really fast, he got pretty heated and said 9 HOLES ONLY. I finished the 9 holes just past 6:30. Probably wont go back to this course just because of the way they treated me. Sure would have been nice if the pro shop would have told me it was a 9 hole tee time.
lots of water
nice course, lots of water. a shot makers course for sure
MANY DISTRACTIONS BUT FAIR
NICE DAY OUT RIDEING A GOLF CART WITH A GREAT VIEW OF LOVELY HOMES AND WATER FOWLS AND BIRDS AND TURTLES AND OTHER ANIMALS IN A GREAT NATURAL ENVIOREMENT. AND BYE THE WAY PLAYING GOLF ON A CHALLENGING WELL MAINTAINED COURSE MADE FOR A GREAT DAY FOR AN OLD DUFFER.MANY DISTRACTIONS
Trouble right on almost every hole.
Course was in very good shape and the greens are always great.
Walkers should be restricted
The course was in great shape.
Walkers should be restricted to playing Monday through Friday because they really slow down the pace of play. If they are allowed to play then the starter should control the pace of play and alternate starting the groups following between the front nine and the back nine.
Great day of golf
There are two holes that are "under maintainance" and are cart path only. Looks like the course was flooded and there are a lot of mud spots. Overall, it was a great day for golf. We got a hot deal for $12 per person which was a great deal for the course. We are looking forward to playing there again.
Interesting course lots of water
Had a great time fun course to play and with Golf Now it was very affordable
Needs some help.
The staff here is always grumpy. The fairways were in terrible shape. The greens were perfect. Overall pretty average.
bring plenty of balls
This course is pretty remote to most of Central Florida so factor in drive time and gas to the pleasure of playing.
The greens were excellent and most of the fairways were in good shape also.
Water hazards dominate some 14 of the holes. If you are not real accurate or have trouble hitting over water, it is going to be a long day. I was working on a swing change and shot about 15 more strokes than usual...most all water related.
good greens, a shot makers course
Good variety of green shapes, on the small side, size wise. A shot makers course with the normal Fla. trouble right and left. Very nice water range, with warm up balls provided free with green fee. Large praqctice green.
Gators and Lost Balls
While the front nine is tight with lost balls a result of offline shots, the bak nine opens up and is more playable.
This course has interesting holes, very challenging
Savannahs has a great layout with many interesting holes. If it were maintained just a little bit better, it would be awesome. Enjoyable test of golf.
Water ponds on 16 holes. Hit it straight ! Small greens. Needs some rain.

Gréât course vers challenging
Great course very challenging and lot of water and narrow fairways
I will not hurry back.
This course was in poorer condition than other public ones I've played recently - fairways were thin with many large burned out areas. Greens were good but slower than most and somewhat inconsistent. Yardage markings were sparse so you often had no idea what to hit. The front nine was by far the more difficult with water on every hole and very narrow fairways and landing areas. My score was 10 strokes less on the back.
It is a scenic and challenging layout.
The staff were friendly and accomodating. The course was in good condition and the wildlife was abundant. We really enjoyed it.I have played the course a number of times and have yet to be disappointed with anything.
Very Nice County Course
I've played this course many times and have always enjoyed it. The course is well maintained and the greens roll nice. There are five sets of tees to choose from so it is fun for any skill level of player. They also have free range balls at the starters shed. There is plenty of water on this track so bring your "A" game or plenty of balls. Golfnow has about the best rate you will find for this or any other of the Brevard County Courses. ENJOY!
Course is nice
The staff needs to take classes on dealing with the public and properly ringing up GOLF NOW discounts! Staff employees work for county and must hate there jobs. Enough Said
