Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
About
Conveniently located adjacent to the DFW Airport, Bear Creek Golf Club serves up two Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding greens. And with both golf courses playing around 6,700 yards from the tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these tight courses. Bear Creek's West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for the high handicapper. Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a blind tee shot and an approach over water, and no. 7 might be the most difficult on the golf course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole, the scenic 180-yard 17th, which plays along a lake.

1 Constant Complaint
I have not played these courses in years and I see the same biggest issue still remains. The 1 thing most people complain about is the pace of play on both courses. To put things in perspective, I offer this to Bear Creek management. Tomorrow at the Farmers Insurance Open, tee times are 11 minutes apart with groups of 3 professionals. Tomorrow, on a Saturday (which are usually very busy) you will have groups of 4 amateurs teeing off at 9 minutes apart. Amateurs don't hit fairways and greens as much as professionals, and amateurs can't find their balls as fast as professionals with spotters on the course. So if the pros need 11 minutes between groups to keep the pace of play up, don't you think amateurs need a little more time than that? PLEASE stop thinking about all the money you can make by squeezing as many people as you can on the course. You can make these courses a lot more enjoyable by spreading out the tee times so people aren't waiting every shot. This has been your biggest issue for years. Hopefully management will finally take this into consideration.
Changes
I haven’t played here since last year but I noticed changes all around and the course looks better. The outdoor area and even the indoor areas look great. Course was still a nice challenge and I noticed landscaping done to different areas on the course. I’d definitely play here again
Beautiful, challenging, and hard Pon placements
Played the East Course. Tough course, no on course Marshall and we waited on tee box all day long. Group ahead was really good, and the did not waste many shots. Course in really good shape,, and greens were worn hard, but that comes with play. Pin placements were ridiculously hard. We all love challenges, however when the whole group is 3 putting regularly, they are too challenging. Carts with hole design, yardage data are needed. I’ll play here again.
It’s been a while
Haven’t played Bear Creek in a couple of years, thought I would give it a try over the holidays. Played the East side, the course was in excellent condition, the changes made are great. The course is still a a challenge but now very enjoyable 👍👍
High cost and low value
The East Course at Bear Creek was in great shape. That was it. There was zero water to drink on the course. The only restroom on the course was closed. There was NEVER a cart person to offer us drinks. There was NEVER a Marshall to speed up the group in front of us that was one or two holes behind.
I like that they have added an outdoor restaurant but I don’t think it was open.
The restaurant in the clubhouse was ok. Staff was friendly but they couldn’t offer fries with the hamburger. Tots was all they had. Who doesn’t serve fries with a hamburger??
No GPS on the carts either.
Will Be Back
Haven't played here in many, many years. Just back to the game after some time off so easing back into local play. Used to be about a 10 handicap when I played years ago but now still searching for what my game is.
I really enjoyed my round here. The course was in good condition (except for all the leaves). Really liked the layout.
Pace of play was a bit slow but that was probably just the group in front of us. No marshal or beverage cart during the round so be prepared for that potentially.
Well maintained courses.
Friendly staff, starter and not much crowded.
Well maintained fairway and greens were aerifications
But pure rolls green's..
Enjoyed round with friends and spouse.
Nice greens, rude staff
The layout and greens were great! Two issues: the guy with the beard managing the carts and patrolling the course is a JERK!! I saw him yelling at people about taking carts. You can’t get a key until you check in, and he was jerking keys away from people because they didn’t sign a clipboard. Then he yelled at our group for taking the cart in a dry fairway and told us we would be removed from the course. Jerk Marshall on a power trip. Very rude. All he needed to do was clearly state instructions instead of being a HUGE JERK!!
Second issue: Blow the leaves off the course!!!
Excellent value for the $$ and central location
Played this course multiple times. Enjoyable track for even the novice golfer. This course gets played quite a bit, but they keep it in excellent condition. Greens were in good shape, fairways were green and in awesome shape, and the bunkers were in good shape, too.
The only negative on the day we played: we were placed in front of a large group of 8, and eventually (as a pair we were moving quickly but not a warp speed…the other two players that booked did not show so we wanted to enjoy our round) the first group of players played incredibly fast and hit into us at a Par 3. We let them play through, but that was incredibly rude of that group.
The course handled things, and we were done with our round in about 4 hours and 15 minutes. Aside from the early frustration we had an excellent time at Bear Creek. Always fun.
Louis - We're glad that you enjoyed the course layout and the greens. We've been working very hard to improve the entire experience at Bear Creek for all our guests. The interaction with one of our employees is unacceptable and we will be looking into that situation. Thank you for the support we we hope you will be back soon to give us another chance to make it a 5 star experience! Happy Holidays - Bear Creek Management
