Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
About
Conveniently located adjacent to the DFW Airport, Bear Creek Golf Club serves up two Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding greens. And with both golf courses playing around 6,700 yards from the tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these tight courses. Bear Creek's West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for the high handicapper. Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a blind tee shot and an approach over water, and no. 7 might be the most difficult on the golf course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole, the scenic 180-yard 17th, which plays along a lake.

Keep BC on your short list
Course layout is a strong point. Greens we ok, but are beat up right now and repairs are ongoing; but does not affect play that much. It's winter so grass off fairway is low but fairways are pretty good right now.
Always S L O W
From a distance the course looked very good for winter. However, that was just green paint on mostly bare fairways LOL. If your ball landed on a hill, it would roll back, or forward to the flat area. (no grass) I don't believe I've ever played this course in less than 4.5 hours. This round I quit after 14 holes as I got so much back stiffness I could hardly swing. Those 14 holes took over 4.5 hours. 2 of the guys I was with quit after 9 because of the slowness. This is the only course I've ever played that has taken GPS off the carts (which adds to the slow play) and the cart I was driving (natural gas) barely ran and would take about 10 foot peddle presses to get going. This course is always packed (at least on weekends) so there is no reason to take away GPS from carts and not have carts that actually work.
Great little course centrally located
Hard to believe this public course is so well manicured. You have to play it a couple of times to know where the best landing areas are as the course takes the driver out of play on a few holes. The sand in the bunkers were immaculate, I should know I was in most of them. Looking forward to getting back out to play the West course.
Windy Day
Teed off at 2:30, with plenty of wind. Played the green tees on windy holes and dog legs to make the course fair.
Blue tees for wide open fairways and had some fun. Love the water holes and the greens - very well maintained for the amount of daily play.
Finished in the dark - but had a good round.
Great Day
Teed off a little after two. The course played beautifully, with greens smooth with challenging slopes, hard to earn pars and birdies.
Pace was good, weather could not have been better. We finished right at sunset, playing orange and yellow balls for the last few holes.
Booked a tee time for today as well.
My favorite course in the Dallas Metroplex
A mainstay in the area
Bear creek with two 18 hole courses has been a stalwart for public golf in DFW for decades. The west course has seemed to be the preferred side and was first for a pretty major make over several years back. More recently the east has had the updating and it is now on par. From the fairway to the greens and the bunkers, it is in great shape. When spring of 2022 gets really rolling, both side should be stellar and a real test for every level of golfer. They added a new party patio as well but COVID will restrict its use until who know when.
