Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
About
Conveniently located adjacent to the DFW Airport, Bear Creek Golf Club serves up two Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding greens. And with both golf courses playing around 6,700 yards from the tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these tight courses. Bear Creek's West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for the high handicapper. Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a blind tee shot and an approach over water, and no. 7 might be the most difficult on the golf course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole, the scenic 180-yard 17th, which plays along a lake.

Great Course, Holiday Pace of Play
The course is in great shape, albeit dry and it is winter.
With the course being this dry and hard, balls will roll a long way.
Being a holiday, and late afternoon, the pace was slow through the first six holes on the West course. The marshal gave us a friendly heads up the play would be slow and he was right.
Otherwise the course was in very good shape.
My only complaint was the lack of on-course refreshments (beer-girl). I saw one drive past us on the first hole and we never saw her or anyone else the rest of the day. I was parched.
Horrible Pace and Dangerous Layout
Played the East Course. Three groups were backed up on the second hole and each subsequent hole. All tee boxes were in very close proximity to the previous holes, so with the backlog and layout requiring lots of blind shots to the pin, we almost got hit just waiting on all of the holes. Three balls came within a few feet from hitting us because we had nowhere to go and groups behind us were hitting blind uphill to the downhill pins. We stopped after 9 because time is valuable, as is our skulls.
S L O W
Every time I forget how slow the pace is here, I mistakenly try it again. Took 2 and 3/4 hours to play 9 holes at which point I quit. People serving food were no wearing masks! FORGET this place!
Good course
The winds were horrible, but I still enjoyed the round. Pace of play was good. Staff was extremely friendly and were helpful to all. I play this course often as it is available to play to all. Get there early or you’ll end up on a crowded course
Greens
The greens are tough and all out of regulation whereas 2 ft around the hole should be flat. Most holes are slop which 3 puts are not out of the question
East course, Bear Creek
Conditions & greens excellent. Bring your gps / rangefinder, you will need it to navigate the course well.
Great course, slow pace
The course was very nice and well kept. My only complaint was that play was a little slow because it seemed like tee times were overbooked. We had to wait 30 to 40 minutes past or scheduled tee time and then play was slow all day.
Excellent courses with great challenge and views
Will not be disappointed when you play at Bear Creek
Questionable frost delay
First group went off at 9:30, we went off around 10:30 (had a 9am tee time), and naturally it was slow playing with groups teeing off one after the other. I’ve never seen a course with a frost delay on a Saturday after Christmas at 40 degrees and no visible frost by 8am... but, they offered to rain check since we didn’t finish our round.
All of that aside, the course itself was challenging but enjoyable, and in great shape for midwinter. It was the day after Christmas, so everyone for the most part was in a good mood. Will come play again with our discounted green fee next time I’m in DFW.
Bear creek waaaay overbooked
So I have played Bear Creek many times..every other time I would recommend as a decent course. Yesterday was ridiculous...they were 45 minutes behind the scheduled tee time. No chance I could get on if I rolled up 45 minutes late and I respect that. On top of that after waiting 45 minutes and the 1st tee box was open they had zero golf carts for us to start our round. We literally had to run down groups walking off the 18th tee for carts...we waited 10 more minutes for that. Our tee time was in the afternoon so we would have finished around sundown if we went off at our tee time but we finished 13 holes before it was too dark. We went back to the clubhouse for some sort of partial rain check only to find all the doors locked. Please do better Bear Creek.
Bear Creek East First Time
Course has an interesting layout. A must to have someone with course knowledge playing with you. Bunkers are totally unplayable; nothing but dirt depressions. Course allows fivesomes & had two in front of us. Play was ridiculously slow. Will be awhile before I return.
