Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
About
Conveniently located adjacent to the DFW Airport, Bear Creek Golf Club serves up two Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding greens. And with both golf courses playing around 6,700 yards from the tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these tight courses. Bear Creek's West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for the high handicapper. Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a blind tee shot and an approach over water, and no. 7 might be the most difficult on the golf course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole, the scenic 180-yard 17th, which plays along a lake.

Course needs TLC
The GPS system was really cheesy;the sand traps were red dirt. The fairways and greens were in very good shape. The leaves were terrible. In my opinion, this course would have been rated four stars 10 years ago but it has really gone downhill. If they would update their GOS; put sand in the traps(after COVID-19) and spend more time blowing leaves off the course this time of year, they would earn back their 4 star rating from me.
Love the Challenge
always love this course. gotta hit it straight or else. due to all the traffic, and time of year, the fairways are hard packed. but, you can still enjoy the great layout!
East
Fairways where great and so where the greens but the price of food was way to high $24 for 2 bratwurst and 1 hotdog
Slow plat
The play was excruciatingly slow, nearly a six hour round. From nine on the west course was horrible layed out and overall ground was far to firm.
Extremely Slow Play
Bear Creek East is a tough course with a strange layout on the front 9. Lots of short par 4s with tight tee box shots. The course was dreadfully slow, taking a full 5 1/2 to complete. For $70 I expected a better value and pace of play. The one good thing were the access to cart girls!
The Bear Is Not In Hibernation
The Tag Marshal GPS system in the golf cart looked great for the scant amount of time it was up & running before it would shut itself down.
The bunkers were in below average condition (I probably should have played them as ground under repair because it cost me several strokes during the round) as were some of the tees, in particular #13 where it'd be impossible to tee a ball with multiple types of tees.
As should be the case, there are certain tee shots that cater to those who work the ball left-to-right and certain tee shots that cater to those who work the ball right-to-left.
For the beginning to average player, the sidehill/downhill/uphill lies provide a challenge throughout the course.
The approach to #5 is a downhill one fraught with water in front of the green and a steep downhill slope behind the green that ends up with the ball either in the the tee area of #6 or just as likely the woods.
#6, #7, & #17 can be a difficult tee shot for those with the left-to-right ball flight.
For some reason, the two times I've played the East course it seems easy for course traffic to bottleneck.
Bummed
Played with a friend from out of town and was told on the 15th hole that the course was closed?!?!! Apparently they overbooked or didn’t communicate because we paid for 18 and had to finish on the first three holes we started on. Also, the gps was smashed and when I asked about a different cart was told they all weren’t working so to deal with it. Not the experience I expected for the price.
