Nice course but always slow play
Lovely course but always slow playing. Not sure why it always takes 5 hours
Awful place of play
Marshalls don’t enforce pace of play. No reason as to why this place should take 6 hours for a round - during a weekday!
Great round despite the effects of rain
This has now become one of my regular courses to play. The layout is challenging and fun. Due to the previous rain it was cart path only, which was a good call to maintain the course but slowed things down quite a bit.
Overall this is a really fun course with amazing views, great staff, and well groomed fairways (especially for a public course). The only downside I have found with Crystal is the pace of play is slow. The round will take 4.5hrs or more with many slow walkers.
Must Play Bay Area Course
This course would be on par with harding with a little grooming. Overall very good conditions with one of the most scenic views in California.
Staff was great and really friendly
Things to know:
Greens: really fast and challenging
Layout: a lot of ups and downs. Do not walk unless you are in shape
Pace: I played at 7:15 so it was fast but heard it can back up
Carts: older and less powerful so be careful
Overall this is a challenging public course that is very close to being on par with a number of private courses. Great bang for your buck.
Don't both
Don't bother coming here unless you are desperate to play golf anywhere no matter what. This is all; you need to know. And totally over priced. considering what you get.
Course layout is great but...
1) Food options terrible
2) Drainage is the worse I've seen. Greens are bumpy and have warts all over them. Spots everywhere are soaked and rain season hasn't started - we barely had any rain 4 days ago..
AlSO they are low on carts... ALL THE TIME. They raised their prices to take advantage of the pandemic - which I wouldn't complain about if they maintained the course better.
Read good things about the course so I decided to make a tee time. I liked the layout but the greens had recently been worked and and were bumpy. Also, the fairways were pretty chopped up and muddy in spots. Lots of elevation and doglegs made it fun and interesting. I'll play here again.
A little too expensive for my liking and greens are punched
I like hot deal tee times and crystal springs very rarely has good times for hot deals unless greens are punched
Majestic views!
Playing at Crystal is like a mini nature walk for my kids. Lots of wildlife (turkeys, deer, rabbits) and beautiful views along the Crystal Springs Reservoir. One of the nicest views along the Peninsula! The course is a challenging round and you’re likely to have more than half your shots, including the tee boxes, on uneven ground as there are lots of slopes and hills to deal with. All Par 3’s are challenging as one is 190+ into the wind, one has a large tree that blocks the left side of the green, and the other two are either hitting up or downhill. If you pat all of these, you’re looking at a great score but don’t bet on it.
Pace of play can be slow, particularly in the afternoon as you have a lot of walkers and lost balls.
Overall recommend adding this course to your rotation.
Fun
Played with an investment banker, home schooling college student, and a gal playing the whole course with a 6 iron. A proper 2020 group. Conditions were good. Pace of play is good.
Challenging course with many hills
Crystal Springs is a difficult course with many hills and undulations.
The course is in good condition but we were not told the greens were being aerated.
There are many very interesting and challenging holes.
