Good layout, good conditions
Crystal offers a good, fun test. Lots of birdie opporunities, but it'll keep you in check. Fairways are pretty wide but you can get in trouble if you reach the trees
got it straight eventually
cov sensetivity, they worked protocals properly, next there as mixup with there computer system, which show no payment...had to call directly to golfpass to completely resolve -- they directly called, and resolved. great. still made tee time. next if they ask if other group of 2 sum can joint ur 2 sum: say no. Cuz that c& ould have smoker,/vaper,drinker, and no mask, poor golf etiquette -- which was the case. ( it will be a year for my repeat game there.) Be very alert with this COV. STUFF AND OTHER PLAYERS.
Crystal Springs
Really good shape. Must hit good shots to score well.
Poorly maintained and slow
This course has potential however it is one of the most poorly maintained courses I have played. They put as many people out as possible and a round takes 5+ hours.
Too slow
After teeing off around 4.30 we had to abandon with five holes left as the pace of play was so slow it went too dark to continue playing 9pm at this point). Our cart also ran out of battery, but the staff were very apologetic so we didn’t mind.
The course was in good shape though, it’s a shame about the above.
Plenty of mother nature’s critters
This review is for the course.
Pro:
easy check-in
nice course layout
in good condition (ive seen it at worse times)
plenty of mother natures animals casually roaming around
plenty of beautiful views to distract you from your game
the course will challenge you with its undulating greens and crazy lies on the fairways.
weather is usually nice but gets cold and breezy around 730pm
Cons:
twilight fees are higher than most bay area courses
you will need course knowledge to either keep the ball in play or score
rounds average 4.5+ hours
expect each hole to have at least 1-2 groups waiting
only saw the beverage cart 1x and 10th hole stand was closed
Love this course but the problems are piling up here
I have always loved the layout here, but never have I played here were it wasn't over a 5 hr round. And now with the whole Covid -19 issues they have no carts and the ones they do have are approaching sharp park standards(which is not good) ours had NO brakes and was from foxtail. Now the good, course in in good shape probably thanks to the 2 months noone was golfing, tons of deer here my god but sand traps need serious help and I'm not sure if there is a way to help pace of play as this course has delt with that problem for years.Maybe just golf during the week I don't know
Straight forward golf
Second time here. Beautiful setting, all facets of nature: rolling hills, trees, deer, hawks, wild turkeys, rolling fog coming off the ocean. With C-19 precautions in place, all staff and players following the rules. Sunday 3p the time in the middle of July, made for a 4:45 round, which should’ve been faster, but the great views made the time go by...
Local’s Perspective
Course is in very good shape.... Pace of play was also very good (Sunday round in 4:30)... COVID-19 rules are simple... Two (2) beverage cart gals... All-in-all: very good experience!
A gem!
This is a gem in the san mateo area !! The first 9 will be a grind - period. The back 9 is score able.. greens are good, fairways are good- its hard to get out of the rough. Pace of play was great - layout is lovely ,course views are beautiful and serene. Must play for a public course !
Best SF Muni
Probably the best muni in the Bay area after Harding. On the surface, the layout seems straightforward, but you get devilishly tricky lies on every hole and will be a test for most. Greens were in great condition as well. If I had one complaint, it would be the slowish pace of play with a quite a few hackers.
Poor service at Crystal
Starter rude, Director of Golf rude
They were letting 4 golfers out with 2 bags. The round took forever
Perfect Day for Golf
Teeing off at the first hole you realize that the fairway is slanted sideways, the front nine-holes are basically that way. It’s so enjoyable to take a walk out in nature and seeing the deer and rabbits all about the course. I will definitely make time to play this course again.
