It's all about the greens
Nice layout, but it is all about landing your ball in the right spot to avoid speedy downhill putts.
Decent course but slow play
Teed us off 20 minutes after our start time and was a 5 hour and fifteen minute round on a weekday. Marshal was out there but didn't do anything to improve pace of play. Course condition was fine and it's a pretty location with lots of elevation changes.
Fix the tee boxes
The pace of play was slow. They don't spread the starts
out enough. They should level the tee boxes, all full of lumps and bumps and not level. We quit after 14th and was heading back to the clubhouse only to find 17th and 18th wide opened. The 2nd group in front of us was holding up everyone.
Sunday 10am tee
Nice course. Hilly and scenic. Front 9 was slow play but that was expected on a Sunday morning. Back 9 picked up. If you are hitting range balls, I advise you bring your own rubber tee for the mat.
Great course
Very nice course with a spectacular views. Great staff and a challenging hillside course. It can be tricky if you do not leave yourself in the proper position.
5 and a half hour round!!!
Great course, unfortunately the course management tries to get as many golfers on the course at a time. At least 10 minute wait or longer for every hole on the front 9. This is a regular occurance!!
I asked the marshal why the backup and he proudly said there was over 300 golfers on the course. This create the worst back log I have ever seen on a course.
It is golf management on courses like this which is the cause of the younger generation and hakers losing interest in golf!
Allow 6 hours for your Saturday round of golf.
Pretty location, but since the course is hilly it's impossible to play in 5 unless you have a 6:30am tee time. My golf buddy and I started at 10:30am and we're paired with another twosome (1 beginner). At the ninth hole a course Marshall addressed our group about our slow pace of play. The Marshall had approached the other twosome who joined us about slow play, but decided to loudly tell the 4 of us that we were a hole behind the group ahead. I told the Marshall that my golf buddy and I were 4 over par and 6 over, and that we will not be lectured to when we had no problem keeping pace without the two we were grouped with. My buddy and I decided to leave after nine holes and we'll speak to the course manager via email. The course is not designed for beginners on a Saturday, and i refuse to be lectured to when my golf buddy (first time for him at the course) and I have no problem keeping pace.
Good value
The course was in good shape. Because of sun and high winds in days prior to our round the greens were really fast. The fair ways are often canted, so positing fairway drives and then follow up irons are challenging. There is a driving range, which we did not use. and several holes provide great views. Because of hills walking this course is great exercise which completed a great day of golf.
Great course that is fun to play
Saw a hot deal i could not refuse on Golfnow and off i went to the Crystal Springs golf course the following day. The conditions were between good and great and the course was challenging at times but overall i liked it a lot and looking forward to play there again. Very scenic course with friendly staff!
Nice people
The course is old and can use some maintance. The greens were ok. The biggest problem was pace of play. The marshal was ask several times to speed up groups but said he couldn't. After more than three and half hours I left on the 12 th hole. Two others I played with left after nine. They told me this is constant problem. It's just not that fun.
Great Layout ,Scenery
Except for the fairways and a few tees, I would have given it a much higher score. The environment is amongst the best in this area.No houses.Beautiful surroundings except for 2 holes along 280. Sometimes the pace of play can be slow.
Beautiful Surrounding
When the course is dry, it's great to play plus the scenery of the mountain, hard to top it!
5 1/2 HOURS!!!
3 hours to play the front nine. 5 1/2 hours for 18 holes. Lost balls in the rough, not the hazard, that hasn't been mowed in who knows how long. This course isn't maintained and they don't seem to care about the people paying to play there.
Crystal Springs
Great course w/breathtaking views! I've played this course probably 50 times in the past 10 years and one thing still kind of bugs me...the pace of play. Yes it is a bit of an up & down track and definitely on the "advanced" player side yet, I'm still disappointed with a few things. 1) The course is NOT very well marked. It's not hard to find the next hole, what I mean is, if you don't have a Sky Caddie or GPS of some sort, good luck finding yardages. 2) Since the very 1st time I played here it's always the same thing...slow pace of play! This course has tons of play everyday due to the fact that there isn't another public course within 10 miles. They stuff the tee times & and are always jammed up because of the lack of Marshals patrolling the course. Great course & a MUST play! Just expect to be there for 5+ hours no matter what day of the week!
Good, considering.
With the deluge of wet weather we've had recently, the course was wet, but better than expected. The greens were better than anticipated and will only get better as the weather improves. The starters were friendly and even let us out early because there was nobody on the tee box. Maybe the head pro at Laguna Seca golf course could take a lesson in customer relations from the Crystal Springs staff.
Cart Path Only All Winter?
I really like this course, when it is playable, AKA in the summer. ==> But the lack of EFFECTIVE/MODERN drainage leaves this course virtually unplayable for quite a while after each rain event.
==> CALL AHEAD BEFORE RESERVING OR SHOWING UP, AND CONFIRM THAT THEY ARE NOT IN CART PATH ONLY MODE.
Slow and steady does not win the race (w/ darkness)
Hadn't played here in a few years, 'cuz not that fond of the layout (everything, fairway and greens, slope same way toward the reservoir), and the greens are just all tabletops. Course was in nice shape (especially greens) considering drought. Weather excellent, and views as beautiful as always. Lots (and I mean lots) of healthy deer (incl. bucks) all over the place. BUT, PACE OF PLAY ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! 3.5 hours on first 12 holes, so doubled back to front and played 4 more (2-5) before too dark to see.
Good job
Crystal springs is a good course. Beautiful surroundings. Some holes are challenging. Staff is friendly.
Great course
There was a large wedding that day so we had to park all the way down by the 17th tee. After a long uphill walk we were told there were no available carts??
The three youngsters in the pro shop told us to go get our clubs (we are both 70) We tee'd off twenty minutes late and had a slow round.
The course is great, many good holes but we failed to finish. The cart lady was really fun.
The pro shop people need to develop better customer focus skills.
