Golfer Reviews
Run down; train your staff
Poor customer service.
Walked in and no one offered to acknowledge or check me in.
Two guys were busy talking on the walkie talkies to see whose turn was it to take lunch.
Other guy a register (asian guy) completely ignored me and then walked past me without saying a word to do something else.
Carts lacked seed/sod bottles.
Tee boxed cut up and no 9 blue tees ridiculously placed.
Won't be coming back.
Too bad since course has much potential and great views.
Avoid Playing this Course
My recent experience with this facility/course (for the 4th time) has finally convinced me to never return The Pro Shop books tee times at 8 minute intervals (on a Sunday no less) so by the 2nd tee, there were 3 groups on the tee for the rest of the round. This is typical here as they are more focused on taking the money than managing a golf course operation for their customers and keeping pace equal to so many other local public courses. It was also 92 degrees out there this day and the refreshment cart met up with us ONCE in 18 holes (5 hours & 10 minute round). There was also NO WATER in any of the 4 water coolers out on the course. I have played almost all of the local Bay area public courses for years, on Saturdays and Sundays, average 4.25 to 4.50 hours and have never experienced such a poorly run golf facility than Crystal Springs Golf Course. It's just not worth any price to sit and wait over every shot for almost a 6 hour round while the conditions are nothing to write home about.
Challenging couse
This has always been my local go to couse when I'd think I'm doing better, I'd come here to find out if I really am (any better). More recently I come here more often, with the thought of why not just continually keep up the challenge, plus I find it reasonably priced, and relatively easy to get a tee time at the last minute, as a single, on a week day. I've found my game continuing to improve as a result, and so far, I've never been paired up with anything other than the best playing partners.
nice course
nice course, bit hard for beginner, enjoy the course pretty much.....
SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW
6 ½ hr. round was just painful. Greens were GREAT tho.
We had two fairly proficient players in front of us that had two little boys with them and would let them putt on the green. Cute right? At one point (after waiting 8 minutes to hit our approach shots) as they were supposed to be driving away, one of the little kids ran back from the cart to pick up his ball (which he had left on the green). So FORGET about getting ANY rhythm in your game. They quit after 9 but Back 9 was just as slow. Marshalls are useless.
Good Value
The Early Bird Deal I used was a good value. Cart and 18 holes for $39.00! Found the course tough for me, as it my first visit, but will play again with hopes to improve my score.
Very lovely holes and lots of deer..
Challenging Course with great views and wildlife
This is a beautifully layed out course with narrow fairways, length, and large greens. Many of the fairways are slanted toward Crystal Springs Reservoir so level lies can be at a premium. The course is in good shape given the California drought--the greens especially so. If you aren't a straight shooter be prepared to lose some balls. There are also lots of bunkers protecting the greens. Deer freely graze among all the holes.
No one to help speed up the play. l
It took 3 hours to play the first Nine holes. We decided to quit. it was unbelievable that no one was available on the course to help speed up the play.
Great course slow play
If you want to see deer up close then this is the golf course to go to. You'll have plenty of time to take pictures as the pace of play is extremely slow on a Saturday around 4:00 pm. It took 3.5 hours for 9 holes. I ran out of daylight. There should be no reason for this slow play. Other than the slow play everything was great. The greens were receptive and the fairways were plush for the most part.
Great Golf Course But Slow Pace
I find it a great treat every time I play Crystal Springs Golf Course. It is a wonderful test of golf with the best vistas and plenty of wildlife. Never play this course on or near a weekend or holiday weekend. Everyone and their grandmother was trying to get the round in the Thursday before the 4th of July weekend. It was a zoo out there and my scheduled tee time was 4:30 PM! That was a bummer. 3 hours to play 10 holes. We quit after that.
SLOW Play
We had played in the afternoon and it took almost 3.5hrs to finish the front 9. The course was playing very very slow. We had to wait almost 15min after every hole to tee off. The problem is that they release too many people within 7 minute increments. We only got through 13 holes and called a quits.... 5hs...
What a course!
It was my first time golfing at this course and it was quite an experience. Everyone was nice, the course was in great condition, and the service was incredible. I would return in a heartbeat.
Don't try to play on the weekend
Pace of play extremely slow even for a weekend.
Played 13hole in 6 hours. The course allows 5somes on a weekend, go figure. The turn was closed for food and we saw cart girls only once in 6 hours. I have played here many times in the passed. I even got married here. It must be under new management. I would not recommend this course for a weekend round. It's too bad. They course was in very good shape all things considered.
Beautiful View
Great view and layout. Bad golf! I got to see a lot of trees. Wasn't my best golfing. Could have managed the course better. You don't need to use your driver on every par 4 or 5. Be careful of the traps, some don't have much sand.
Fine day
Good outing with some old college buddies. Course was full and we started 15 minutes late, but once we got going the pace-of-play was what you expect on a public course near the city on a nice weekend - that is, abyssmal. 5 and a half hour round.
Some of the tee boxes were in *very* bad shape. Greens are really fast but that's to be expected with the current water crisis. Bunkers have almost no sand - tough to flop out a good wedge.
Amazing Views
Nice long course with great backdrop on many of the holes. Pace of play was very slow on this Saturday. Apparently there were 300 or so golfers on the course. Not sure how that's possible with 18 holes but the ranger as well as staff both told us this.
Planning on checking out this course on a weekday when it should be less crowded.
Good course with some challenging holes!
Very good pace of play and the course was in a reasonably good condition.
Not worth the cost
This was the second time I've played this course. It's my belief that they base pricing, not on the condition of the course, but on the cost of the view. Save your self some money and just pull off the highway to enjoy the view. The greens on this course are that of a $30 course. It's not kept well and there is obviously very little care put into the course.
The layout is a little tricked out as well. I'm ok with that, but unless the course conditions are up to par then the tricked out aspect doesn't really work.
My advice: Pay $25 - $30 to play this course (not $82 on Golfnow - or find a course worth the price.
