Five ball play
I do not think it is not good that the club allows to play the five ball play. Some times it cause slow play.
Slopy fairways and elevated greens
Due the drought, the practice is all brown.
The fairways are in decent shape and greens are in good conditions.
I played on in a hot deal at 2.10pm and finished by 6,30pm.
The front threesomes are average players but they took their sweet time .in strokes and putting.
The course has new GPS setup on the cart. So it is cool. However, my playing twosome's GPS did not work. They called twice to request for cart with working GPS. The pro shop said it would be coming with different cart with working GPS. It never happened to the end of 18th.. So that was bad service.
They forced a player in my group to buy a collar shirt instead of giving him a warning. That was good and bad. He is a high school Freshman only. New to the game first time playing not knowing a bean about required collar shirt. Pro shop could have made an exception instead of costing him $45. for the shirt...
Beautiful scene while playing
Nice view of mountain and lake... Nice green but fairway condition is not good...
Crystal Springs always challenging
Sloping fairways make it absolutely necessary to place your ball just right. Beautiful scenery! Playing in the morning means you might get done in 5 hours - course is always overbooked, but good value for the money if you have the time.
Beautiful Course with challenge
I have been playing at Crystal Springs for last several years. It is a beautiful course that will definitely challenge your golf skills. Pricing is somewhat higher than east bay located golf courses but if you take advantage of their specials, it is a good deal to play here.
It's OK
The course is OK but not very exciting. Basically it's a lot of straight fairways, small elevation changes, no water, and a few sand traps. The fairways are pretty firm with numerous aeration areas. Signs have been posted regarding decreased watering due to the drought so there are a lot of brown areas also.
The greens were fast but in good shape.
Day well spent with son
Easy to get to, splendid view, wonderful weather and great polish dog Nd Pilsner Urquel beer. Radio to order food on the eigth for pick up at the turn. We will play again here
Will return
Course play was very fast, if I didn't lose 10 balls in the bushes I could have finished in 3.5 hours or less.
The fairways were air-raided so that wasn't too good, but the greens were great and course if definitely challenging, will be back to improve my score for sure!
Real nice round of golf
Played crystal springs on one of the nicest days of the year. 4:15 tee off about 85 degrees. The course was wide open I assume because some of the fairways had recently been aerorated The greens however were great and fairly fast. Great round of golf in ideal conditions. The couse itself is very well kept. The location is fantastic. Although part of course runs along hwy 280 you feel like you are out in the country. 18th hole is not a great finishing hole. Tiny green. This place was is gem Especially if you find a round at a good rate on a weekday eve. Paid $29 per person with cart
Please ENJOY the view while at play
The view was beautiful plus the course is a bit challenging but my only complain is the tee box not exactly easy maked. I love this place overall and would be back soon.
Great course
This is an great challenging course. If you play here take note of the water because it will have an effect on your game including your putts.
The day we played the green had been punched recently and we had NO ONE in front or behind us which is always nice.
Enjoy!
Beautiful course... if only...
... if only the course was as well maintained as the price it suggests.
slow slow slow
This place was so slow they over book the heck out of this course. The pro shop didn't even have a divot fork and the cart died on us. It's a shame too because the course was decent.
Not Worth It
I have lived near Crystal Springs my whole life. I am a fairly good player 0-4 HDCP, depending on how often I get to play. This course is way over priced. On the weekend for 80+ dollars is not worth it. I would pay $50 to play crystal. Yes you get a nice view on a couple holes but overall the course conditions are not that great the set up of the course could be better as some pin locations are not in the best locations for the average player which slows down play. Lots of up hill, down hill, side hill lies and can get windy at times. This is my first course review and the only reason I am writing this is due to the fact I just received an email for weekend rates saying "Great weather and incredible rates" and I wanted to let everyone know that that is not an incredible rate for this course and do waste your money playing Crystal. Drive 30 minutes south and you can play better courses. I would recommend Greg Copland and Zach Huesser as golf instructors at the range if you need instruciton. Both are great guys and great instructors.
4 hours to play 9 holes, horrible time management by staff
We had a 1:15 tee time for 4, didn't get out until close to 2 PM. When we got to the 2nd tee, there were two groups waiting ahead of us. We finished the front nine at 5 PM and decided to call it a day.
I blame the facility for sending out 4-somes only 7 minutes apart (the previous group was 1:08 PM and the group before that was 1 PM, and the group after us was 1:22 PM) and not encouraging faster pace of play.
The course can be pretty challenging for new golfers, so for a public golf course to expect people to hit their drive and their approach shot in < 7 minutes is pretty ridiculous. They are clearly just trying to maximize their income, but at a big cost to the golfers that come here.
Shame too, since we booked our tee time 5 days in advance and we were really looking forward to it.
Challenging course, slow play
The biggest issue with the day was the golf carts. We had to call twice and have a new one delivered because the carts ran out of power. Also the pairing was uneven. We were paired with a single so there were 3 of us. There was a single in front and a foursome in front of them and a couple behind us. Made for very slow play.
Golf Carts didn't work
Showed up for the Tee-time and was told that the golf carts weren't working or that they would last as many as 3-7 holes before shutting down. Others at the course who had just finished up were visibly frustrated.
A 50% discount on the cart fee was then offered. I was surprised that there would be any cart fee for carts that are guaranteed to shut down after 3-7 holes.
Had a great round at Harding Park after the hour round trip to Crystal Springs.
greens in great shape and was very windy that day
in the last few years Crystal Springs Golf Course has stepped up by providing great fairways and greens. Using Golf now.com provides the best way to schedule your golf and provide a great dollar value playing golf
Lots of wildlife and good layout
Course was in great shape considering the freezing weather in the area for the last week. Some of the traps had frozen water in them and could use some maintenance, but other parts of the course were good. Course has some narrow areas but the landing areas where most drives would land were fairly wide and made room for some errors.
Slow play, poor conditions
If it weren't the only somewhat challenging public course on the peninsula I would never go here. Conditions are poor, play is slow, and it costs too much. Greens are awful...some of the local munis have better greens. A shame they don't put some money into it and spread out the tee times because the layout is good.
