About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Interesting course
I like the layout not a boring straightaway hole after hole course. Pretty good shape considering no water in LA. Tee boxes were not in good shape but the fairways and greens were nice.. bunkers too. Pace of play can be slow depending on who gets in front of you, but overall I like this course!

Really slow…
We got stuck behind a very slow foursome, which was stuck behind a very slow single, which was stuck behind another slow foursome.
My golfing partner left after nine holes because we were waiting a minute or two before every shot for the fairway or green to clear ahead of us, which made the 90 degree heat and heavy humidity too much to bear…
This course should really get a Ranger out on the course to help move groups along, out of consideration for the other paying guests…

Better than before
I played here about 3 years ago and although I though the course was nice then it was even nicer this time.
Greens rolled true and fairways in nice shape. Plenty of sand in the traps and just enough water to keep things interesting. About the only thing that could need some investment is the driving range. Balls are older than Moses and there are few rubber tees on the mats for driver practice.

Worst Staff Ever
You should avoid Scott Wally in Rio Hondo, a coach and marshal in the golf course.
For example, a white male and white female finished their tee off at the blue and white tee box.
When two asian females tried to tee off at the red tee, the other twosome went into the fairway instead of waiting at the red tee.
Then Scott yelled and threatened the asian females to join the other two without tee off.
when two asisans explained it was their turn for tee off, Scott shouted at them just TEE OFF or he will take off the key.

Excellent Muni
Rio is one of the best munis in my circuit. The course, and greens especially, are consistently well kept. There are many tight, tree lined fairways that challenge you to keep the ball straight off the tee. It's flat and very walkable. Pace of play is sometimes an issue, a mid-week, mid-day round can take anywhere from 4 to just over 5 hours.

Hot summer play
Very hot today reaching 94 F
Coursecondition including fairway and green is pretty good and even single handicapper can enjoy good golf.
One thing need more is cold drink supply by veberage cart.
60 bucks feels somewhat higher but still good to reccommend.
