About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Excellent Pace on Saturday Afternoon
Got started at 3:30 and finished 18 by 7:45, playing 4 some. Great pace of play.

Improved
Second time I’ve played here. I’m a beginner but always get matched with easy going people. Thank you John, Scot & Reina! Only negative out of 10 positives is the pace of play. Started at noon on a Friday and it took 5.5 hours. It was not overbooked but the two groups in front of us played at a snails pace. Felt bad for the two groups behind us. We were all together often during the day. Staff is always great, layout challenging & condition of course is good considering it’s summer.

Pace of play
For a Wednesday afternoon, the pace of play, particularly on the front nine was poor, 2:45. The back nine improved to 2:15 to squeeze in about five hours. Maybe because the front nine has back to back par 5’s followed by back to back par 3’s. I hadn’t played at Rio Hondo since late February so I don’t know if slow play has now become a trend there.

Fun layout course
Good layout for novice to advanced players. It can get hot with no wind in sight. Breeze came around later afternoon. At one point it was 92" degrees with no breeze in sight. Enjoyed the layout. Took little over 5 hrs to play 18 holes on Monday early afternoon (12 PM Tee time) Delayed 20 min to start. Please repair your divots for others to enjoy as you did!

Good layout for a muni, horrible pace of play. Price ain’t cheap.
Pros: it’s a rare LA area muni that makes you strategize tee to green. Pretty much every tee shot requires a strategy as bunkers and/or water are well placed (unless you hit it 280+).. You really can’t just bomb away here as the fairways are narrow(ish) and hazards come into play on almost every hole. Fairway and green conditions were fine for a muni.
Cons: the price to pay this course is on the high end. With the extra fees one would expect a marshal to be on hand to help dictate play. There was no marshal and the pace of play approached six hours for 18 holes.

Terrible pace of play and no marshals
We booked a 315pm tee time and didn't tee off til 410pm due to lack of carts. Pace of play is terrible since there are no marshals on course to push people

Please fix your ball marks on the green
I've notice that ever since covid the common courtesy to uphold the conditions of the course by the ones playing isn't there anymore. Please everyone repair your ball marks on the green and once there repair two more. And also rack the traps for Pete's sake. Let everyone that day enjoy their round of golf. This just doesn't apply to this course but every course I have played in the LA and OC area the same problems exist that wasn't a problem 3 years ago.
