About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Rio Hondo is a great choice for golf
Got a round in yesterday. Staff was friendly apon arrival and even got me out a little early which was a plus since temperatures were going to be a bit warm. Pace of play was good. I finished in 3:59:00. Greens were in good shape. I recommend to play if you haven't yet done so.

Better than average
Nice, fairly easy municipal course. Layout is flat. But tee shots are narrow and accuracy is key. Greens are in average shape as they don't seem to be recovering well from some disease. They are bumpy and inconsistent, but overall not very difficult. Tee boxes are great and fairways are mostly ok with dormant grass and some thin spots. If you're local to this area, this is a nice course. If you have to travel a bit, I'd say it's not worth the drive.

SLOW
I’ve always said, and will continue to state…if you play twilight or later the pace of play has to be faster than 10/hole. Ready golf. Rio Honda is NOT that. We were backed up every hole from 7 on. And two groups backed up on 7/8. It’s not the PGA, it’s a twilight round. Let’s get a move on!

Need to speed up pace of play!! Sometimes it's really bad!!

Long wait
Our tee time was 3:23pm. We didn’t go out until 3:50pm. I think. We would have gone out later if I didn’t ask the person in the clubhouse about our tee time. It looked like the three people running the clubhouse was standing around and talking to each other and no one was paying attention to the tee times. There was long line of groups on the 7th and eight hole waiting to play the hole. Our group was unable to finish our round of golf. We left on hole 15 at 8:10 pm since we no longer could see due to the sun going down.

Well-maintained
Beautiful course. Requires you to use all your different shots. Good beautiful lakes and plenty of traps. Perfect for an intermediate player. Very scoreable for a good bogey player.. plan ahead it’s hard to get a tee time.

What happened?
This use to be one of my favorite courses, since Covid it has been extremely hard to get a tee time so I was excited to get one Easter Sunday. My friends and I played but was disappointed with the presentation of the course and pace of play ~ since it was fairly empty. Not sure if I would play here again anytime soon

Avoid playing on Weekend - Too slow
It was pretty slow to play front 9 (it took almost 3 hours) Sunday afternoon. I was tired of sitting on my cart most of the time.

One of the best public golf courses in SoCal.
I played Rio Hondo Golf Course for the first time. The course lay out was as good as you can expect from a public course. The fairway and the greens were well maintained. The flow of play was bit slow but definitely within average pace. Driving range, putting green, and the club house was all well maintained. Overall good value for the price.
