About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Golfer Reviews
SLOW
I’ve always said, and will continue to state…if you play twilight or later the pace of play has to be faster than 10/hole. Ready golf. Rio Honda is NOT that. We were backed up every hole from 7 on. And two groups backed up on 7/8. It’s not the PGA, it’s a twilight round. Let’s get a move on!
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. Your review is important to us, we apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. We will pass on your feedback to the team and continue to look for ways to improve. We hope to see you back at Rio Hondo Golf Club.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at Rio Hondo Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you on the course soon for another 5-star experience!

Need to speed up pace of play!! Sometimes it's really bad!!

Long wait
Our tee time was 3:23pm. We didn’t go out until 3:50pm. I think. We would have gone out later if I didn’t ask the person in the clubhouse about our tee time. It looked like the three people running the clubhouse was standing around and talking to each other and no one was paying attention to the tee times. There was long line of groups on the 7th and eight hole waiting to play the hole. Our group was unable to finish our round of golf. We left on hole 15 at 8:10 pm since we no longer could see due to the sun going down.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. Grounds were kept so you can find your ball.
I’d try to get out early. The afternoon backs up pretty bad.

Well-maintained
Beautiful course. Requires you to use all your different shots. Good beautiful lakes and plenty of traps. Perfect for an intermediate player. Very scoreable for a good bogey player.. plan ahead it’s hard to get a tee time.

What happened?
This use to be one of my favorite courses, since Covid it has been extremely hard to get a tee time so I was excited to get one Easter Sunday. My friends and I played but was disappointed with the presentation of the course and pace of play ~ since it was fairly empty. Not sure if I would play here again anytime soon

Avoid playing on Weekend - Too slow
It was pretty slow to play front 9 (it took almost 3 hours) Sunday afternoon. I was tired of sitting on my cart most of the time.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
One of the best public golf courses in SoCal.
I played Rio Hondo Golf Course for the first time. The course lay out was as good as you can expect from a public course. The fairway and the greens were well maintained. The flow of play was bit slow but definitely within average pace. Driving range, putting green, and the club house was all well maintained. Overall good value for the price.
Thanks so much for the review and for the 5 stars. We look forward to welcoming you back to our course soon. Thanks for choosing Rio Hondo Golf Club!
Really???
No definition between fairways and rough. A little water would go along way. Please tell the public that your greens are aerated instead of having to find out when you get there. Good Friday a holiday? Back to back par 3s should have a marshall waving groups up. The Marshall actually drove by my group and said "I can't understand why there's a backup here" Really??? Best part of the day.. getting my green fee back after 7 torturous holes. Thanks Mike.
