Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

A nice day at a local course
A nice lay out and a very busy course which is to be expected. Pace of play was okay for a mid morning round. no complaints.

Slow
Great price for this better than average city course, but pace of play was painful. Tee-d off at 2:40 in February and took three hours to play 9 holes. Also, somewhere nearby there is music playing--sounds like a bad ice cream truck, or Merry-go-round that provided the sound track to our day. The non-stop music that could be heard on every hole made the pace of play even more painful.

bad delay
The overall course was good, but teetime was badly delayed so that we could finish only 15 holes even in 4H 30 by sunset.

5.5 Hour Rounds
Wonderful track but poorly designed. Back to back par 3’s will ensure you finish north of 5 hours. It’s unfortunate because course itself in decent shape.

3 hours to finish 9 holes on Thursday
Pace of play is horrible no Marshall 1 hour 3 holes.
Joke green are good course is narrow and short.
Don't waste your time.. looks are deceiving nice and clean but boring

Fairway greens area dead
It felt like playing on the ground, not on the grass. They need to water more often to grow the grass on the fairway.

Be prepared for very slow pace of play on the weekend
I liked the course layout but the pace of play was painfully slow. We started our round at 1pm, and made it to hole 13 by 5:20pm. Had to stop because it was too dark to see the ball. Most holes we were waiting on 2 groups of 4-some’s in front of us before we could tee-off.
I don’t think we’ll be back. Not worth the money.

Great course, but didn’t get to play it.
I have played here a bunch of times. Great course great people. I showed up 5 minutes before my tee time ready to play. When I mean 5 minutes I was in the pro shop ready to pay.
Shop guy tells me I was replaced. Think he did someone a favor. Won’t bring my business here anymore.

Great value but slow at times
Have played here many times. Well kept. Great value. Shortish but tricky enough course (they use the distance well). This past time really noticed pace of play being an issue. Many groups just walking off. 1:30p tee time and did not make 18 holes. Other than that recently I have played here many times without issue. Recommend

Beautiful course/horrible pace of play.
I have played this course in 2 1/2 hours when it was 100 degrees out and nobody wanted to experience the heat, but my last two rounds were interrupted by darkness due the ridiculous pace of play. Last week the front 9 took 2 1/2 hours and yesterday it took 3 hours. This is entirely due to the course being mobbed by people who can’t or won’t play at a proper pace. On the seventh hole with three groups waiting, I saw people hitting extra balls and fishing around for lost balls in the water hazard instead of taking a drop and playing on. These are the same individuals who mark 6 inch putts- “ready golf” means nothing to them. To say nothing of inappropriate cart parking,
either too close to the green or so far away it’s a five minute walk backwards while everyone else waits.
Of course there are no course marshals to do anything about it.
I will play there again, but only when I have at least 5 hours of daylight to work with.
