About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Fun course - pace of play needs work
Fun course, love the layout and location to DTLA. A good value, not a great value compared to other city courses. Little tight in some areas so hackers will be on other fairways so that certainly slows down pace. The overall pace of play was horrible and spent was almost waiting on every hole. Took 5 hours to finish and that happened last time I was there too. Other than that the course conditions and greens were great.

Slow pace of play
Only done 14 holes by 4 and half hours, Every tee box every fairway every green we had to Waite at least 2 minutes.

Disappointing
Used to be a nice course. Course now looks like a goat track. Muddy spots all over every fairway. 5 hour round with waits on almost every hole.

Horrific
What a shame!!! This course conditions use to be so great. T box looks more horrible than range, second shots on fairways are from dirt or mud (no grass) and the greens are full of divots.

Slow pace
Only done 14 holes in 4 and half hour. From hole#1, we had to wait for couple minutes on tee box , fairway, and green.

Slow play
Slow play. I shot 69 here in 4.5hrs not ok golf should not take this long ever. The golf community needs to take control of this asap in Northern California rounds are 2.5hrs 3hrs at the longest. Get it together!

Brisk day on course
Very nice course/fairways/greens
Very,very slow pace… took over 3 hours to play only11 holes!!! With time change( dark@5) start time was delayed.. suppose to be 1:00pm( started @ 1:25) ugh….should have been able to @ least get 16-17 holes in but…….never saw a Marshall ( would have been nice to speed up players lagging) especially those others who are playing for ‘skins’ ($$)…. Slows things up for those just playing for fun. That is my only beef with it overall… needed a MARSHALL to monitor

Gone down hill
Course is not in as good a shape as I played it in the past. I don’t play the course very often, but this is the worst I’ve seen it. Did they even punch the greens this year? May be not. They didn’t roll very well and most were a little bit on the thick side and very grainy, and coupled with the softness and moisture, with nobody fixing ball marks nor spike marks, they just looked damaged in the spots where they always put the pin. They need to spread it out and change it up a bit to get better conditions.
Pace of Play was the worst today. Just over 5 hours for a tee time just before noon. No reason was given, no marshals. We assumed it was because there was thick fog this morning is why there was back up, and total slow down. Waiting on every shot on every hole, watching and catching up to the group ahead at the tee and then to wait for them to finish - you know how that goes. Obviously the club doesn’t care.
Tee boxes are just ok, some do need work. Some of the fairways were bad - so many divots not filled and also dead patches spread out on some holes that badly need attention. For a course that charges slightly more than other munis, the course should be in better shape. Coupe if bunkers I hit barely had any sand, hard bottom under a very thin layer.
Very disappointed overall. Especially the pace, seeing as it’s a weekday.
