About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Course needs to pay better attention to detail
Nice course, have played it for years. Pretty good condition in middle of winter. Range balls are the worst I’ve ever seen at any course ever, among the 500+ courses I’ve played. And when my foursome made the turn, a group of players jumped in front of us on the back in an attempt to play nine. Pro shop and starters didn’t catch it, and only acted when we complained that if allowed we wouldn’t finish before dark. Management needs to manage the course.

Get what you pay for
As the title says. Don’t expect lush fairways and immaculate greens. The ground is hard, the greens are well, greens. They do their best with the price point. Pace is slow. Suck it up or pay the extra coin to play somehwere else. Good golf ain’t cheap, and if you wanna pay for cheap golf then you ain’t that good. Have a beer and have fun.

Pretty solid for the price. Course is in good shape. Greens were rolling surprisingly slow. Pace of play needs some work for sure, no Marshall in sight. No gps in the cart or a beverage cart as well. For your basic day of golf, it’s not bad…..if it’s local.

Pace of play

Pace of play on a Friday
So there was a frost delay in AM delaying our Friday shortly after noon tee time by about 20 minutes. Maybe that impacted pace of play, I don’t know. Or maybe this course has shortened the times between tee times from 10 minutes down to 7 minutes? Again, I don’t know for sure. But the front nine took 3 hours! The back nine improved to 2 hours, 20 minutes. I like this course but will avoid returning until I hear better reviews on pace of play. This was a Friday too which makes pace of play puzzling. There was a ranger on the course

A nice day at a local course
A nice lay out and a very busy course which is to be expected. Pace of play was okay for a mid morning round. no complaints.

Slow
Great price for this better than average city course, but pace of play was painful. Tee-d off at 2:40 in February and took three hours to play 9 holes. Also, somewhere nearby there is music playing--sounds like a bad ice cream truck, or Merry-go-round that provided the sound track to our day. The non-stop music that could be heard on every hole made the pace of play even more painful.

bad delay
The overall course was good, but teetime was badly delayed so that we could finish only 15 holes even in 4H 30 by sunset.
