About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Golfer Reviews
Too Busy to make for a fun day.
made a mistake to play day before Thanksgiving. Super busy, backed up 2 groups each hole. Tensions among golfers high. Had to leave after five hours of play at 16th hole.
Good course but beware of errant balls
Course is in good condition with greens running average speed. Pace was a little slow but about average for this course (little over 5 hours). Pace was probably dictated by the fact that there was always another golfer from another fairway in our fairway on almost every single hole and it started while in the 1st tee box. Saw multiple people disrespecting the course by driving their cart in/through a tee box while looking for their ball. Cart girl was always around but didn't see a marshall anywhere during the entire round.
They DOUBLE-BOOK their tee-times
Well, don't expect me to ever go play at this course again. Customer service was under-par...I check-in 20 mins before my tee-time, and I'm told to come back because they have zero carts. I ask the group teeing off what time is their tee time? They say they x:xx, and I'm like...what? I have the the same tee time. I come back "1-minute" before my tee-time and tell the starter about it, he says, "Sorry, the system double-booked..we still don't have a cart for you". So, I check-in and pay without being given a cart and now I'm on the tee. I eventually teed-off without a cart and they brought me just as I was leaving the 1st tee. Pace of play was abysmal with 3 hours each 9 holes for a 6 hour round...what?!!! Greens were spongy and slow, seemed like they over-watered as wet spike marks were all over. Overall, the bunkers and fairways were the best kept areas. Easy course and shot an easy 75, but not worth the mental drain of slow play.
Narrow and slow
The course condition is almost always on the good side. It is a well manicured golf course. However, it is very narrow and many of the holes are literally right next to each other. So, there will be a lot of players yelling "fore" all over the course. The pace on weekends can be very slow, and sometimes they have private/public shot-gun tournaments, so players beware--especially if you're using Golfnow, read the fine lines carefully. This course suits older player who can hit straight but not long.
Rio is the best
Great course and challenging with all the trees. One of my favorites
First time here
Good course that is challenging yet playable for any level golfer. Fairways were being aerated so that made the experience less pleasant. But overall the course played fair and I had a good time.
Fun course
Nice mixture of holes. Some narrow fairways, hidden hazards and fair greens. I’m looking forward to a second crack at this benevolent track.
Took Dad out for his Birthday
Played on July 4th, was so impressed with the course conditions I decided to take my Dad here (7/11/2019)for 6 AM tee time. This course is up to Country Club standards but at a very affordable price. Dad and I have an amazing round.
first out for 18 done in 3 hours in time for work !!!!!!
greens are super slow but the course is in almost perfect condition
Enjoyable
Had a pleasant trip out to Rio Hondo. Course was in nice shape. Greens were a bit bumpy but for the most part the staff do an amazing job keeping the condition of the course. First time there but certainly not our last. Completed our round in 3hrs 55 mins. Thank you.
Amazing course for the $
Played with some friends on the 4th at 5:40a.m. Course was in great shape especially for a public course. Friends kept on commenting that this was the best course they’ve ever played for the $.
Nice course!
I was surprised the golf facility and the condition of golf course was in excellent shape! I didn't expect to see it because the course is owned by city. I like the layout and fairway is neat and every hole is well maintained and playable. We played under 4 hours which was what we want. Definitely I'll play again!
