Pasatiempo Golf Club
About
This classic golf course is arguably one of the top venues in the country. Pasatiempo was certainly one of designer Alister MacKenzie's favorites. The legendary architect made his home off the par-5 sixth hole and regarded the difficult, uphill 16th as one of the best par 4s ever designed by him or anyone else. To make it even better, the golf club embarked on a two-year restoration project headed up by Tom Doak. The result was nothing less than spectacular as bunkers and greens were to returned original specifications with modern turf and drainage technology. With its great design and elevation changes, Pasatiempo Golf Club plays much longer than its yardage and will test good players. The back nine is particularly strong, perhaps as good as any in the country.

The 11th is a TOUGH par-4 with great elevation and a false fronted green. Use enough club! Photo submitted by greebs on 07/20/2020

The par-4 14th. A great example of what makes this course special. Notice the hillocks and hummocks on the left side of the fairway. Otherwise, this would be a mundane hole, but this addition collects tee shots and makes the approach interesting. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 08/12/2017

Makenzie called the par-4 16th the greatest two-shotter in the world, largely due to the three-tiered green. No room for error long, short or right. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 08/12/2017

From behind the 11th green, one of the most difficult par 4s I've ever played. Requires two-to-three clubs up on approach. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 08/12/2017

Pasa- Heaven on earth!
Pasatiempo is absolutely the hidden gem compared to the Monterey Peninsula. The Alistair McKenzie design and greens are probably the closest I will be to playing conditions similar to Augusta. Greens are perfect and challenging and a huge premium on accuracy. I play here every time I am in the area and get rewarded each time. Perfect course and climate. My only issue yesterday was about a 5 hour round.
Pasatiempo is ranked high for a reason!
The Pasatiempo Golf Club is a must play if you're in Northern California. The fairways and greens are in great shape!. The staff was very friendly and vert helpful! I will play this course again when I return back to the Monterey Peninsula! Thanks.
scecial treat
my son and i treated ourselevs to a happy new year. the price is out of our normal league. but the course is so really nice, as well as the staff. we really enjoyed the layout and the greens. the course is fair and not gimmicky.
Absolutely perfect
After hearing so many great things about this course I finally had to try it myself. The whole of the staff was extremely welcoming right from the beginning. I was paired with a member whip was very helpful in guiding me around this masterpiece. The course is in wonderful condition and I couldn’t recommend more highly.
Wosrt green condition.
Over priced golf course and on the day I played, the course was worst condition ever according to the members who I played with.
Overpriced, unfortunately
I know this is somehow ranked among the very best semi-private courses in the country but it is definitely not worth the money we paid. When we arrived at 8:30 am the grill was not open and there was no food or drinks available aside from some free granola bars. Practice area was nice with a large green and chipping area and a driving range located down along the first hole. Conditions were excellent and the greens were rolling great. The layout is definitely challenging with nice elevation changes but in the end its just a well conditioned public course running through a nice neighborhood. I understand that being an Alister McKenzie design adds to the price but we would not go back and play it again. We have played several of the top ten public courses in the country. All were expensive and so far this is the only one we felt was not worth the money.
Is it a crime to say that it is OVERPRICE for an AVERAGE COURSE?
I play golf three times a week at multiple country clubs and play golf for work while I travel around the world. I will simply say that I had much bigger expectations and it's also overpriced. Most likely overrated. It was on the bucket list and now that it's done I shall move on.
Poor Maintenance
Played here many times and it's been fantastic. However, this time the maintenance left a lot to be desired. Grass clipping on all fairways and greens were really bad.
Slow greens…disappointing
I was pumped to play Pasa again (it’s been 5+ years). Gotta say I was really disappointed. Same great layout but the greens were running like 8 and the course was pretty beat up. No more ProV1’s at the chipping range. $55 for two doubles at the turn. Disappointed to say the least, especially for that greens fee.
Nicest course in Bay Area
The course is beautiful and challenging. The greens are the best I’ve played in Northern California. The fairway and rough are plush without any weeds or bare spots.
Today was cart path only which is extremely frustrating. Sometimes I would have to carry 4 &5 clubs because I wasn’t sure where my ball was or the lie I had.
Playing with someone who knows the course is crucial. Looking forward to playing again.
Awesome.
Played this course about 10 times and absolutely love it. Really challenging and superb maintenance. Very friendly staff especially the starter Robert. Will definitely go back.
