Pajaro Valley Golf Club
About
Originally designed by Floyd McFarkland, Pajaro Valley Golf Club has large Monterey Pines lining its generous rolling fairways. Elevated tees provide scenic views of the Pajaro Valley below. Opened in 1922 and redesigned in 1962 by Robert Muir Graves, the course features small bentgrass greens and four ponds with water in play on three holes. The fourth is one of the course's most challenging holes, a 420-yard par 4 with triple-tiered green. The course also was once the home of former U.S. Open champion Olin Dutra, who spent the last part of his career teaching here.

Greens have improved
All grass, including greens on the back 9 have drastically improved. Great place to play.
The green conditions are kept improving.
Played this course a few times, glad to see the green conditions are getting better. Enjoyed.
Greens
Love the layout, look and feel of the course however the greens are need of much love and a letdown. I understand they are working on it but it will take time.
Not a bad track
Overall the course was fun. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Tee boxes were in decent condition, some better than others. Fairways were nice for the most part, of course a couple dry/rough patches, but overall pretty nice. The greens definitely need the most help. There are a couple pure greens, the rest are a little burned and patchy so putting can be a little rough. But I’d still recommend this course to anyone interested. I’d definitely come back.
Golfer
This golf course is in poor condition. I would never play this course again
Course Struggling
A once beautiful course has come on hard times. They have a great staff with an impossible task. We have been informed that this course is in the process of being renovated. In the meantime however it is not being cared for. The front 9 is disintegrating. The back 9 is a virtual desert. You are playing in dirt in the fairways. The greens have big patches of freckles that leave them lumpy. The T-boxes are mostly not level. You tee off with the ball above or below your feet most of the time. While waiting for the renovations for several years now, the willingness of the owners to invest in any basic maintenance issues has made the course virtually unplayable. It is absolutely horrible compared to what it was in the past. Can not believe they are charging what they do for the condition they have allowed this course to fall into.
The green condition is horrible
In overall this is a good course. I enjoy the weather and the day. However the green condition is horrible. It has weeds and lot of dry grass. It need some maintenance to keep the course great again
Repair the Greens!
Putting surfaces need repair. Dead fairways are expected at a cheap price, but several putting surfaces were unplayable. Shame. We used to really enjoy this course and it’s beautiful views of the Slough and Monterey Bay.
Nice Course TERRIBLE GREENS
The Practice area was superb! The Range was excellent. Tho course was fair, the Greens were the worst I ever played on. NO such thing as aTrue Roll, too many holes and bare spots...12" gummies could be tough.
Disappointed
I've played this course many times before, but seems like maintenance is severely lacking. Poor green maintenance, cart paths are horrible, tee boxes need help. In the past the greens were well maintained but now. Place needs new management or a company to take over and revamp the place, has a lot of potential.
Great design and layout
Pajaro could be a great course it is a great design good layout good features good challenges but the greens were horrible. They were inconsistent, speed varies some were barren splotchy. If they greens were redone it could be a great course.
Water Issues
This is a great course with wonderful staff. The Golf Pro has a lot of knowledge and is very friendly.
There are a lot of elevation changes and tough holes. Unfortunately, the course has been struggling with some water issues. It is my opinion the green fees have been reduced to reflect the course conditions. I would definitely go back after we've had some rain.
Worst Greens in the US
Course was in sore need of attention. Great Grass driving range. This is a good layout, a scenic course, but the Greens were lumpy and bare in spots in 40% of each & every green! Was overpriced for the condition the Greens & course were in.
Unplayable
The greens are literally destroyed and unplayable. Good time to bring out a beginner golfer for their first round without having to worry about getting in the way of other golfers, other than that stay away if you're trying to play golf.
Terrible conditions
The course is at the worst conditions I’ve ever seen in it. Greens not even worth putting on and hitting off dirt in the fairways. They charge way too much for what this course is, $100 to not even hit a putt on grass is ridiculous. I’ve played this course before and it’s been nice but until they fix what’s going on I won’t play it again or recommend it to anyone. I’m disappointed I payed this much to play.
I really like the course, mostly
I love playing Pajaro. The layout is great, mature trees, and when I play mid-week, I don't feel rushed. The discount on Golf Now is also good. The one issue the course has that detracts from the experience is the greens and the bunkers. I do not understand how a golf course that is obviously cared for, like this one, can have such horrible greens. I see the maintenance guys out there working on the course every time I play, yet the greens and bunkers are so bad - it's a mystery to me. But, everything else I like so much, I'll continue to play it as my home course.
pajaro conditions
the course is in terrible shape , t-boxes are horrible ,all the greens are suffering from disease, fairways are dried out . the course is not worth the price no matter what you pay, we came down from San Jose 45minutes
Conditions
The whole 18 are pretty rough, especially the greens
Hi steezysteph24.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We’re sorry to hear your experience wasn’t what it should have been. Your feedback is important, and we’re working to make things better.
We take great pride in providing a welcoming and well-maintained environment for all of our guests, and we deeply regret that we fell short of those expectations during your visit.
Our product is not currently at the quality we expect. We've had significant disruptions of water supply with our old irrigation system, which has been targeted for replacement with course renovations. Multiple remediation activities are in progress and we are seeing improvement. The quality of our greens will return soon to the condition our customers enjoyed and praised just a couple months ago.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work to elevate the quality of our course. Should you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.
Needs Some TLC
Greens were very patchy and seemed to get worse further away from the clubhouse.
