Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Tough course
The fairways were not as lush as I thought they could have been. Not really a fan of drainage running all through the course, but that is just me not doing better at course management. I want to play it again just to make better decisions. I think that course will be better for me in the Winter.
Worst value for golfing
Terrible, on all levels. Overpriced. Boring courses. Not good conditions. Worst value for the price I’ve ever experienced in my life. Never going back there.
Never again
We paid an outrageous amount for a poor experience.
We had a 10:32 tee time and arrived 45 minutes early. The range was in poor condition. Worn out mats and a lot of dirt that should have been grass. We arrived at the Blue Course starter station 10 minutes early and were paired with two season members. The starter advised that the groups ahead of us were girls on the University of Minnesota play a practice round. He said they hit the ball long and were waiting to hit the green (par5) in two.
So we waited for them to clear be fore we hit. We waited to hit on literally every single shot for the rest of the round. They were playing two tee shots each on all of the par threes. The member left after three holes due to the extremely slow play. We were stuck because we had paid for the round. The course itself was in terrible condition. Fairways were extremely wet and muddy. The lay out on sixteen makes no sense and runs alongside the members practice range, so watch out for balls coming at you. It was and expensive horrible experience. I will never go back!
Gold course
First time playing Wigwam. Staff was great.!! Course was in very good shape. Trent Jones greens were tough.!
I’ll play here again.
Underwhelming
Was excited to play the Gold Course. Never played any of the courses at Wigwam but heard the gold was best. Was able to get what I figured was a steal of a price for a Sunday late morning, $70, a couple days in advance so I booked it. After playing, $70 is the most I’d ever pay to play here again. Starting with the good; the course layout was good. Very strategically placed bunkers that force you to hit good shots if you want a birdie putt. However, several of the greens were in terrible shape. Basically big areas of construction not marked as ground under repair. Like sink holes on the green with no grass and just dirt. Like a dried out muni course. Thankfully pin placement was not next to them however, it is in the way if you’re trying to land your shot in that area to spin it back or roll it up. A few of the tee boxes were basically bunkers. Just beat to a pulp in un-repaired divots and just mass amounts of sand all over the place. Same goes for the range. Rough shape; especially for this time of the year. Pace of play was running behind but not terribly slow considering that no ranger/marshall/players assistant was out there at all on a Sunday afternoon! It’s not worth the normal price they’re charging. If you can get it at a steal, then it may be worth it but it’s my own fault for setting my expectations high for how spoken up this place was. Pretty bland…
Well taken care of!! Play the Gold, it won't disappoint, and just when you think you have this track figured out, it will eat you up!!
Amazing course, moderately slow play though
Loved the course, immaculate greens and perfectly cut fairways. Pace of play slowed down from the second hole and the round took 4 3/4 hours. ( ( Not as bad as it could have been since I think the weather sent some groups in to the clubhouse later in the day.)
There were some no shows and threesomes - so I think it could have been worse. We took a discounted start time at 2:16 and just barely finished ( almost in the dark!)
We would definite do it again.
Best course for the money, in the valley.
Great layout, not punishing. Great conditions, bunkers could use more sand. Great value.
Challenging Gold course
Overall great challenge. Generous fairway THEN the greens show their teeth
Gold Course
Long for woman but very playable. Robert Trent Jones and his fairway bunkers…not a fan! Overall we will definitely go back!
Golf was great
We played the gold course. Everything was great from the oversees. The greens and the cart girls were top notch
Wigwam Golf Resort - Gold
I have nothing bad to say about my groups experience at Wigwam. It feels like a desert Oasis. I cannot speak for the red or blue course, I saw some greens and tee boxes and they looked good, but our round was on the Gold Course.
Check in was a breeze, they had great Merch and a wide selection of my favorite brands that looked sharp. Friendly staff from the ladies at check in to the snack bar to the starter and the bev cart. Snack Bar Side Note - the lady was nice and helpful, but I was off put when she asked if I’d like to enter a gratuity amount when I paid with my card. She handed me a bag of chips and a beer can. That is all.
Because I am the way I am, I said no pretty promptly, then pulled out a $1 bill and put it in the tip jar. I don’t think she appreciated the hard no, and I admit my $1 bill was passive aggressive, but I digress. I didn’t care for that last bit of our interaction.
The tees, fairways, rough, and greens were perfect. Bunkers were full of sand, not dirt. It was 75 degrees outside and no breeze. It was perfect golfing conditions. The hole variety was incredible on this course, and we played a 4 some at 11:30am Thursday in 3.5 hours with no one pushing behind us or any wait ahead of us.
18th hole was pretty special for me. 400 yard par 4. Drove it into the right fairway bunker. Hit a strong PW over the lip to 10 ft then nailed the birdie putt to finish the round. It was an incredible finish for me to an incredible day.
Don’t forget to tip your waitress… lol
Wigwam Gold Coursework
Very challenging layout wth fast greens, with many bunkers and water hazards. Pace of play was good and round was finished in less than 4 hours. Played here 4-5 times and staff is very helpful both on and off the course.
It’s on my go play list every time I’m in the Goodyear & Avondale area.
