The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

Solid Pete Dye Layout

If you are a fan of Pete Dye offerings this course will suit you. I can understand the higher handicapper low ratings simply because Due courses challenge you beyond your skill level. I thought the layout was good, it plays harder than it looks because you are penalized for being out of position. Overall playing conditions I’d say were marginal right now because the course is overly dry. Greens were firm and fair and the staff was excellent. I would play it again but wait til rates drop todo so.

Disappointed in Red Mountain Ranch

I was attracted to this course because of the Pete Dye design. The golf shop people and the starter were very friendly. Unfortunately the course has been very poorly maintained. Different types of "sand" in the bunkers ranging from gravel to mud. Course looked burnt out and it was only mid April. Many areas with no grass at all - just dirt. Several ball washers broken. Seems like the owners are not spending the money to keep it up. I would not recommend it.

Fun course with good challenge

I thought this was a great course. Lots of fun and challenging but a layout that I really enjoyed. Beautiful views on most of the holes. Some greens could have been in better condition. There was a 4some in front of my 2some that was very slow. We were waiting for 5-10 minutes before almost every hole. The starter should have came out and facilitated us passing them. Oh well, i’ll be back for sure.

Kind of beaten up

This course feels like a casual municipal course but apparently it’s a semi-private country club. Tee boxes were rough, fairways mediocre, short rough full of weeds, bunkers muddy. Some of the rough looked like a construction site. The greens were in pretty good shape however.

Crazy lady on 8th fairway threw a ball at me accusing me of breaking her window, while my ball was in the fairway. Not the clubs fault but beware, some holes have tightly packed houses.

For the $100+ for the round, I would not recommend.

Course conditions not worth the price.

The greens and tee boxes were fine but the fairways and rough were fair, at best. More dirt than grass. I know prices have gone up but you would be better paying another $40 and gold a good course than this one at $109. Not worth it.

Course in pretty rough shape

Even though I’ve played this one and only AZ Pete Dye course a few other times, I was disappointed with the overall condition of the course considering this time of year when dormant winter areas should be coming in nicely and looking healthy. The rough was generally in very tough shape with mostly weeds and not much healthy grass (I know, stay out of the rough haha). Although the greens rolled fairly well, many had areas that looked very stressed, not good especially for this time of year. If you can appreciate and handle the crazy mounding that Dye was known for, then you will have a relatively good experience. Was disappointed there was no bev service on the course, however there were water stations on the course and you could make a quick stop at the bar when making the turn.
