Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge

About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Great course
Had a wonderful time, course was in great shape. The staff was outstanding.
Not Worth It
Definitely not what I was expecting from a $229 round of golf. Dead rough grass, mediocre fairways and green painted grass. Painting your fairways green instead of adequately maintaining them is like putting lipstick on a pig. The only nice part about it were the greens. The greens are in excellent shape.
Not a bad course
Course seem to getting work done especially on the front nine. Back wasn't so bad, Overall a good course.
Expected better
First time playing the Palmer course. The price has always prevented me from booking a tee time. Finally, we were able to secure a reasonable green fee, so booked a tee time. The course is very playable, however there are some holes that some local knowledge would have helped. Fairways and rough were all dormant brown. Areas around the tees and greens had been over seeded. The fairways and rough were certainly in OK condition, but for the price expected the fairways to have been over seeded. Sand in the bunkers was inconsistent. Same had a thin layer and were very firm under the thin layer. Others were fine. We played in just under 4 hours, even letting a single and a twosome play through. Lots of twosomes, threesomes and a few singles . It is a resort course, so there are several sets of tees which make it playable for all skill levels of players. We were paired up with a couple and the lady was a very high handicappers, but she was able to enjoy her round. Overall, an OK course, but not worth the rack rate green fees. Maybe if you are resort guest , you get a break on the green fees. Golf carts have GPS. There were a couple of flags that the distance was off by about 10 yards. Screen was hard to see as the screen was not very bright. Would play the course again if we get a decent price, which should be about $50. The course certainly is not worth the $149 or $229 green fee advertised.
Pale
Seems like every other course has lush, green fairways, this time of year, but not the Palmer course at Wildfire. Not having that extra cushion under your ball seemed to affect some shots. The greens were exceptional, every putt makeable, there were no sudden undulations making your ball turn just before it was to go in the hole.
I was playing the blues, but having issues with getting the ball to the fairway. One of the other golfers showed me the blue/white way of play on the scorecard. Next time I will play that way, as my drives are not as strong as they were in the past.
Wildfire is always a treat !
I finally made it up to Desert Ridge for a round at WildFire since They came off of Cart Path Only & it was worth the wait 2B Sure. Met up with Cameron that day & it was Nice to see Justin again out front when arriving as My equipment was gathered up right away. My time allowed Me to meet up.with Jerry, Wareen & Garrett who definitely helped our group maintain an excellent pace(3.5hours!)
The look of the Palmer course was once again spectacular and condition wise was Fantastic, even the bunkering was in wonderful shape throughout the course. Greens rolled out a couple of extra feet, quicker than They appeared and SMOOTH too. This time of year is when Plenty of courses should be in Prime shape and the Palmer course at WildFire certainly is -B Well.
Sharing carts????
First thing is ,I really love this course! BUT! Was very surprised about the paring up with someone in the same cart! I had to go onto the pro shop and ask if I could ride by myself! Yes after checking with the Manager , they took care of the problem. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! With the virus ! The reason from the employee in the pro shop was! WE DONT have Enough carts. So I looked outside and down the drive to the cart house was , my guess 75 extra carts! Not a good answer to my question, SO , here’s a case that the bottom line is more important that someone’s safety ! SOCIAL Distance , maybe they just don’t get it ! The web site description says price includes CART , not 1/2 cart , not a shared cart, , Again I don’t think that a customer should have to wait for a answer , it should be handled , with no question! Now I let my golf buddies know what happened , I a retired senior , and play golf all over the valley , you make a customer unhappy they tell 10 others , You make a customer HAPPY and they might tell one!
Excellent!
From check in to Clubhouse you receive excellent service. Turkey club sandwich is Huge. lol. Practice areas are excellent. Will definitely return.
Thanksgiving treat!
Fairways great. Greens perfect. Less break than I thought there would be. You can tell the back nine is taken care of better than the front since it’s used as an LPGA event. Ball checks great in Nov. A few blind landing shots if you want to cut some distance off a few tee shots. Staff could have been better it was just “you can go out when you are ready” would have been nice to throw a direction of the tee boxes since I haven’t played here before. Several holes not Driver holes. Finished 82 9B 1DB one ball in the water on 17. Don’t go left on 10. 6.2 HC
Great Day
So had a 1 PM time and I was worried about finishing before dark especially with a 5some on tee in front of me. They let me threw and I was doing in just over 3 hours and 29 minutes. Course in great shape and enjoyed the day
Entirely Enjoyable
Great time! Course was in excellent condition although this time of year greens were quite slow. Pace of play was fine. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this course and looking forward to playing it again!
