Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge

About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

First time at Wildfire
Golf in Scottsdale in January is almost always excellent, but also very expensive relative to other times of the year. We paid $139.00 each and that was inexpensive compared to other comparable courses in Scottsdale. I live in Arizona and have played almost all the known public courses, including both Troon North courses (both are excellent) We-Ko-Pa (both courses are excellent), The Boulders (both courses are very good), and so on. I would rank my first experience at Wildfire as at least very good if not excellent. Everyone associated with the course was very friendly and helpful. We played the Palmer course and it was excellent, with a fair amount of wildlife throughout the course (which I enjoy). Parking is weird, but all you need to do is take your parking ticket inside and they will exchange it for a pre-paid ticket so you don't pay the $10 fee once you exit the parking lot. Practice facilities are abundant and very nice. Course has a really good layout, is mostly a good challenge, especially the fast greens, but overall you should be able to score pretty well. Bathrooms on the course are very nice, and the refreshment cart came by at least 3 times during our round. I really can't think of one negative and at some point we will go back to challenge the Faldo course. Our experience was extremely positive and a great day of golf in Scottsdale.
Did not disappoint
Been wanting to play here for a while and we got it on a hit deal and did not disappoint, course was in great shape and was challenging. Staff really friendly. Definitely want to try the Faldo course on my next trip to Scottsdale.
Terrible Pace of Play
I have played this course many times over the past several years. It is very scenic, well maintained, and with a nice variety of holes. However, on this occasion the pace of play was atrocious. Not a ranger in sight to move things along, and calls to the pro shop went unanswered!
Great Layout
Very fun and fair golf course. Great conditions, considering all the rain we’ve had.
Fantastic
Course was in fantastic condition. Staff has always been very friendly and the best breakfast burritos and Bloody Marys in the area! We always get a tee time at Wildfire when visiting. It’s become one of our favorites!
world class
every time I play this course I smile and want to thank everyone at Wildfire for how well they keep the course and customer service is off the chart.
Play it again
We first played on our 2021 golf trip and really enjoyed the course. Just played it in 2022 and we all said it was even better the second time around.
Staff is friendly, great practice facilities and the course was in great shape.
We will be back.
Can’t go wrong with a Palmer Course
A bit tighter than the Faldo course, but very nice. Conditions were excellent and we finished in under 4 hours (barely) with a 12:30 tee time.
I always enjoy playing either of these courses., but they have gotten very expensive. As such I only play when I can get a discounted tee time.
