Unlike many other Scottsdale courses, Kierland Golf Club's three nines sprawl across rolling hills without a single cactus in sight. The nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Mesquite/Ironwood Course is has player-friendly fairways that are generous and easy and the green are large but not particularly undulating or fast, which makes the golf course accessible to a range of different skill levels. The course isn't entirely forgiving though. The Mesquite nine may be the flattest of the three nines but it is also the toughest. The par-4 sixth is especially demanding. The challenges of Mesquite are balanced by the player-friendly nature of the Ironwood nine. There is some strategic mounding but overall the links design is very approachable. The golf course ends with its signature hole, a classic risk-reward opportunity with a lake to the right and sand traps to the left.

Unusual heavy rain flooding in Arizona

Nice course layout but unfortunately the flooding from heavy rains the night before ruined some of the fairways and bunkers.

The course staff were working on fixing the damage.

Looking forward to playing it again in the future.

Do not waste your money, there are so many better courses in the area.

I recently visited Scottsdale for a bachelor party and wanted to treat my brother to a great golf experience. After doing some research, I chose this course, expecting it to be one of the top options in the area—just behind TPC Scottsdale—especially considering the price.

Leading up to our round, I received several emails expressing how excited they were to host us. Unfortunately, that enthusiasm completely disappeared upon arrival. We were greeted with a cold, transactional attitude—basically: pay your tee time, keep pace, and don’t expect much else. No welcome, no energy, just a warning. For reference, all of us are under 10 handicaps, and the only non-golfer in the group was just riding along.

The course itself? Incredibly underwhelming. The greens were in rough shape—laughably bad compared to Papago, which was in excellent condition and half the price. We also weren’t allowed to play the signature finishing hole, which was never mentioned in advance.

Layout-wise, the course is bland, simple, and lacks any real personality or challenge—especially disappointing in a golf-rich area like Scottsdale.

Bottom line: Save your money. Papago offered a far superior experience at a fraction of the price. This course left a lot to be desired and won’t be on my return list.

Solid Summer Conditions

Really fun layout, very good summer conditions. Course rotates maintenance / aeration between 3 nines. Acacia 9 is especially fun, also played Mesquite 9, which was aerated about 10 dats ago, so still needs another 10-14 days. Very friendly staff inside and out. Recommend now, with a nice green fee savings from prime season.

Great Course

Always enjoy playing here. Super friendly staff. Course is in very good condition in regards to fairways and bunkers. Mesquite greens were really nice, Ironwood greens were punched and bumpy, but should get better. Putting green was closed.

hole nine

I have to say that hole 9 was rather challenging without the cart and especially in the heat.

Not sure if anything can be done to allow carts or disable the cart for older folks

Kierland complex great

We played again on a recent golf holiday. Course was in great shape. Facility including hotel and villas are amazing. Pace of play not great. We were stuck behind a single playing 3 balls and although the Marshall knew about it, didn’t do anything. Acacia is their signature 9. Make sure to include this one.

Not worth it

You expect quality when you pay $300 to play a quality course. Played ironwood/mesquite and the greens were the quality of a $20 mini course. Every green was patchy or bare. I was amazed! Expected and heard great things about this course. I was upset that more reviews didn’t show how bad the greens were. I would’ve spent my $300 elsewhere. Very disappointed. Do not play here if you’re looking for quality greens to play on.
