Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Very nice course and conditions. More difficult than the Faldo course . Enjoyed it for 75 dollars
Very nice condition especially in late summer
The course was in great shape, tees, fairways, greens and traps. I can't find anything to complain about. We marveled at the pristineness of the bunkers, they looked like they were ready for a photo shoot. Slap on the back for everyone involved.
Fairways were a little shaggy
Overall the course was in great condition for this time of year, but there was very little change in the length of grass from fairway to rough. Staff was very friendly and the greens were in great shape, can't wait to play there again.
Course in terrible shape
Most of the fairways and around the greens plagued by dead grass. Disappointed that they charge this much when the grass is in this condition. Municipal courses are in better shape...
Fairway problems
I have played this course many times and usually it’s in great condition. We have not had rain for awhile and the fairways were in bad condition. Some of the tee boxes were soaked, making it hard to push off. The greens were in great condition. I enjoyed my round and hope the course recovers soon.
Usual Arizona summer conditions
Nice course, enjoyed the layout very much, greens were in great shape although my putting stunk. There was a fairly significat amount of fairway that was without grass, usually in places that were high or on a slope where the irrigation doesn't get to the roots or traffic areas so we moved the ball to grassed spots. Hardly anyone else on the course during our noon to 4 pm event (four hardy souls beating the heat with mass quantities of liquids). The course had not been aerated yet.
Good Conditions
This was pre-punch round and the course was in good condition. Greens were in good shape and hard and fast. Not overly tight but some holes did require targeting landing spots. Worth the play!
Round in a Flash
Top to bottom a pleasure! Anytime you get to step foot on “The King’s “ creation...it’s a treat and a pleasure . The Faldo course is also a joy! Thank you Desert Ridge! The best part, I golfed 18 in 2 hrs and 29 min.
First Time Playing the Palmer
Had a great day golfing the Palmer. Staff very friendly from checking in to checking out. Pace of play was great. Course was in condition most other Phoenix courses are right now...waiting for the Bermuda to get established. Will definitely be back to play.
Worth the heat
Did the hot deal. Was very hot out. Came prepared. Hydrated lots. Played Faldo earlier in week. Palmer course tighter than Faldo. Very surprised how great shape overall the course was. Will definitely make this a destination course in future.
Fairways
I have always loved playing this course but the fairway conditions on Palmer were atrocious. For the price we paid I would expect MUCH better conditions especially since I have grown accustom to them when visiting this course. Overall had a great day just wish the fairways were in better shape.
It is not as perfect as they say
The use of the phrase “the course is in great shape” is an over used phrase to describe any course. Wildfire is a great layout, but is not in great shape. Overwatering in some areas has left the ground spongy and grass drowned out. The ranger we encountered was rude and not aware that we were waiting for the group ahead of us. Fix these issues and this course will return as a must play.
Summer Price Drops Mean Upscale Golf
The summer prices have finally arrived in the Valley, so the locals now get to indulge in upscale golf. Wildfire is typically in the $200+ range through the prime golf season here from November through April. With the summer heat, tourists tend to stay away and the better courses' prices drop accordingly. Palmer is a decent layout with tee boxes spaced to match all levels of playing styles without compromising the challenge presented by each hole. With the summer heat, however, the course struggles in spots on the fairway to maintain lush grasses. Burnout is present, but not in large areas. Your ball will invariably find a burnout area multiple times in the course of the round, nevertheless. Not to worry, the No. 8 wedge puts the ball into a nice grassy spot just inches away. The nice thing during the round was how receptive the greens tended to be. With the summer heat, you would expect the greens to be hard and play like billiard tables. Not so. Holding the ball on the green was not a problem. As for the practice area, range balls are provided and the hitting area usually has plenty of 'deep' grass to hit from. Its a top level course all around.
