The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch
The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the Golf Club at Johnson Ranch.

Johnson ranch not worth it
Course is incredibly boring, in very poor condition, with ball pits covering the greens. Range balls are not included in the over priced fee. Highly recommend driving the extra distance to Florence to play Poston Butte for a similar price and 10 times better shape.
Well when we showed up, they were pairing one of our golfers with a stranger in the cart. They finally agreed to give her her own cart. The cart attendant just pointed to our carts and did not help, not even the ladies. They ran late and the pass of play was slightly slow, not too bad. They had no cart service. The ranger was very pleasant. When we finished the round, we pulled up to 3 employees sitting on chairs, no offer to clean clubs or help he ladies with their clubs. They just looked at us. I think they forgot what customer service is.
Great Course For The Price
Got lucky to get a lower rate being a single joining a booked three some. Very nice and challenging coures.
Great customer service
Plan arrive late pro accommodate me to be able to play my round and then I was paired with 3 gentlemen who volunteers at the course and man what a blast the help me with targets if I needed and I really enjoyed my time and golf well worth the drive and will come back soon
Zero complaints today, course was in great shape! Some reviews show issues with pace of play. I have experienced this in the past, but today was great. Marshall was out and checked in with us twice to ensure pace was acceptable.
The web site was not updated to reflect the frost delay, very inconvenient, and caused many groups to congregate waiting for the start. Why not post it on the web site with an approximate time of delay
I’m giving this a two star review. 1 star for how amazing this course of kept, amazing greens, beautiful wide fairways and awesome tee boxes, it’s truly a gem. Another star for the food, quick hot and good value, just what you’re need on the golf course. However, the lack of the other three stars comes from my friend and I’s experience. Somehow after a one hour frost delay on an 80 degree day, we started on hole 1, with groups behind and in front of us. No problem, play the front 9. Get to the turn, get our food that we conveniently ordered on the 9th tee box, ready to go when we pulled up. As we get to the 10th tee, start to eat food for there is a group ahead teeing off, we are approached by a time keeper who proceeds to tell us that “we” teed off where we shouldn’t have, which was never mentioned to us. So instead of letting the two of us play the back nine, the reason you go to Johnson ranch, the mountain 9, he says, “hurry” and go back to one. Really? Okay, fine, get over to 1 only to have a four some right behind us insist that we are in the wrong for being there. After arguing with old men, my friend and I promptly pickup and LEFT as quickly as possible. I don’t understand how there was nobody on the tee boxes after such a mishap directing people where they should be. How did no one notice that my group did not tee off at the time we were supposed to from the tee boxes we were “supposed” to be on. Mismanagement for NOT A SMALL GREEN FEE. Going to take a while to get over it, and to be honest I said little to the staff, I’m in the line of thinking that they had their chance to make it right and chose to make me decide that they will not get my business for a minute. Hope this could help the next group know for sure where they are supposed to be, save you the embarrassment of why I just experienced as a golfer.
Wish I could talk about fairways but spent more time in rocks and fringe. Greens a bit quick but nice
Beautiful desert course
Our foursome had a 9:00 am tee time on a Saturday. We felt the pace of play was extraordinarily slow. Our round took 5:20 to complete. Our group was half locals and half visitors. Our local friends said weekday rounds are quicker so if you’re looking to play on a weekend, beware and start early.
Even though the pace was very slow, the staff was extremely friendly and the course is beautiful,, especially the mountain side. It was well worth playing.
There was a frost delay, so . . . .
It's a very nice course. However, there was both a frost delay, and a tournament that went off before we teed off. I wish that the course (which has my e-mail address) had sent out some notice about both the frost delay and the fact that we were behind a tournament. Otherwise, it was a beautiful day, and despite the delay, we managed to get our round in before sunset.
Our 3-some arrived (after a 45 minute trip to get there) for a 1:37pm tee time and found out that the course was at least an hour backed up due to morning frost delay. Apparently they did nothing to reduce the backup-maybe could have started players on the front and back nines at the same time or??? As a result, it was impossible to complete the 18 holes. No rain check, no reduced rate offered.
