The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch
The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the Golf Club at Johnson Ranch.

First, if you have a 90 min frost delay, they need to either have a way to generate mass email or texts to let people know. Most courses have a superintendent that can actually foresee such potential. Get staff ready to make those calls or send those emails. We learned of the 90 min delay upon arrival after an hour drive to get there.
Next, they didn’t tell us before tee off there won’t be a beverage cart.
Additionally, When the delay prevented us from finishing, they just offered a raincheck.....we live an hour away. Bite the bullet and give a refund!!
Lastly, staff wouldn’t touch your bag. They move the carts around without gloves but won’t touch our bags. Everyone touches ball machine coins, cold water buckets for towels, doors without sanitizer next to it....but won’t touch your bag.
Management needs a serious makeover. As a hospitality professional, this could be soooo much more and demand a higher price. Unfortunately, it’s below average experience. Potential = 5 stars. Actual = 2 stars.
Very slow play.
Needs a course ranger. Group ahead of us dawdled on the tee box. 400+ yards par 4, group ahead had left the green, they had not yet teed off. Happened several times.
Late Tee Off
We got to the course for a 1:30 tee time only to find out they had a frost delay and tee times were running 1 hour late! Question: if they could email me and remind me of my tee time why couldn't' they email me and tell me they were one hour behind schedule. They did adjust the $$$ and charged me for twilight - but play was slow and the carts had to be in by 6.
Teed off at 12:30 PM and finished at 5:40 PM. That is way too slow for a course that "emphasizes" pace of play. If they want that to happen, they have to enforce it. Marshalls have no desire or authority to do anything about slow play. People playing behind me stated that the flags were being pulled at 5:00 PM and they didn't have the opportunity to complete their round. The course is a nice track with some very nice views and in decent condition. But the pace of play made it frustrating and detracted from the enjoyment of the day.
Hello. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and to best control pace allowing everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve, and we are glad to see you rated the course conditions to be great during your game. Thank you for playing The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch. We hope to see you again soon.
Was very crowded but course played well staff kept us informed
This is a beautiful course. However, we got a “good deal” on Golf Now. When we went to play they had about a 35 minute delay which we could not have finished, with the tee time we had. So they were very nice and changed it, but it was an extra charge to change for an earlier time, a couple days later. So we set an earlier tee time on a different day. We went, an once again, a frost delay. So we played because we could finish. So if you get a tee time, call before you go, to check for any delays. They were very nice and we enjoyed our round. We had about a 45 minute drive, so wished we had known.

First time playing here, greens were tricky and fairways were nice. Not the easiest course for beginners but li enjoyed it. Would play again when I am back in town.

Finished the round in 4 hours, 15 minutes
Pace was right on schedule. Had to wait a few holes but not for long. Had a frost delay of 1/2 an hour, so it looked like it would stay backed up, but no problem. Greens are a little slow but course is in good shape.

Very nice course, several tough long par 5's and par 3's.
We got off to a tough start with a 45 min frost delay. I was a lone golfer and put into a group of 3 and had to share a cart, after we all got over that we had a great day of golf together. My only complaint, never saw anybody with a beverage cart and if you only have a certain amount of golf carts then don't book More golfers than carts.
