Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
About
The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

catalina course - tucson nat'l Photo submitted by bellefeuille on 11/25/2012
Nice cource.
Great layout. For People plays first time Is confusing to find a pat becouse it's mixed with other course(Catalina).
Few more briges could be added instead driving a cart on the send.
Course is in the best shape of any in Tucson
Tree lines fairways make you drive the straight. Some hidden water hazards that local knowledge is very helpful. A must golf course to play in Tucson. I definitely play there again.
Great golf course
An excellent golf course and a beautiful venue. My only complaint was that the greens were a little bumpy after a recent aeration.
greens still a bit bumpy
Other than the bumpy greens which had been plugged recently, the course is in exceptional shape. The fairways and tee boxes were excellent and the greens held beautifully. Plenty of drinking water on the course as well. Summer time rates, however, are not at all a bargain.
Easy to follow course
This is a nice and easy to follow course. KUDOS to the staff especially the guys in charge of course maintenance. From Tee to Green everything was in great shape (Thick but consistent rough). I do recommend this course and will hopefully play it again.
Tucson National Sonoran Course
Summer golf in Tucson is like a bar date, hot and cheap and you better be sure to stay hydrated.
Tucson National is top of the line golf and while the Catalina course is my all time favorite, the Sonoran Course is definitely in my top 10. Course conditions are always outstanding and while the greens were a bit slow after aeration, the course still didn't disappoint. If you have a chance and have never played it, do so and you will not be sorry.
omni
Course in great shape. Staff very friendly. Pace of play was very fast.
Golfer from Denmark
Excellent round of golf, on an amazing course. Very friendly staff, perfect training facilities.
The double punched greens
They had punched the greens twice within a week making them almost unplayable. Was like putting a ping pong ball on wet concrete. No warning posted on GolfNow.
yoyoplayedhere
VERY NICE GOLF COURSE. I BOOKED ON GOLFNOW.COM AS A SINGLE BUT GOT PAIRED UP WITH COUPLE GUYS. THE ONLY THING THAT I DIDN'T LIKE THAT MY TEE TIME WAS CHANGED WHILE I WAS ON THE DRIVING RANGE. I RUSHED TO THE FIRST TEE ASSUMING THAT I WAS GOING TO PLAY AT 7 AM BUT GOT BUMPED UP TO LATER TEE TIME. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE.
nice course
Very nice course, not easy but very fun to play. Bunkers were in amazing shape which is rare for Tucson.
A challenging but playable track
Great condition, fun to play. A definite course to play next tri[p to Tucson.
Catalina slow play
Course in great shape and great price on round. Quit after 12 holes and four hours however. Talked to staff about pace of play and they didn't seem to Care. "Yea it was slow today", no marshalls were ever seen.
Favorite course of the week.
Difficult but great course. Staff was friendly and helpful. In the sand a little too often but would do better with a little course knowledge. Will definitely golf again.
Good location
Professional staff and well taken care of grounds.
The only thing to do in Tucson
The course was in great condition considering the Tucson National was played there weeks before, and there was a golf tournament going on at the same time as we were playing. U of A was playing St.Johns. With several courses combined on property, sometimes you get turned around, but nevertheless a good course with lots of scenery of the Catalina Mountains.
nice desert course
Played with my son - we were paired with another GolfNow customer and a course member. We played in 4 hours, and benefitted from member's local knowledge. Many desert courses, this one included (Sonoran), are tricky if you do not know the best line to play. This is a perfectly enjoyable desert course with a fair amount of elevation changes and uneven lies. Would probably become more enjoyable the more often you played here, due to familiarity. We played in early April, weather was perfect and course conditions were good. Staff was friendly and helpful, generally a good experience. Enjoyed a nice meal at the clubhouse bar/patio afterwards. A worthy add to any list of courses to try in Tucson area. Interested to come back and try the Catalina course which I understand is very different/traditional compared to Sonoran.
Tucson Natl. Golf
Played both courses on successive days. Both experiences were outstanding. Both courses are in first class shape and the staff was extremely courteous and accommodating. You gotta play here!!
great conditions for so early in the season
This course had the best conditions in the rough out of the 6 we played from 3/5 to 3/16. They were pretty green so you didn't always roll back down inclines.
You travel quite a bit through a development between hole but views are great.
