Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
About
The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

Great Course
First time playing here. I am not a great golfer but I had a blast. Course was in great shape, well maintained fairways and greens rolled flawlessly. Staff was super friendly. I will definitely be back
Great staff, great course, good food
First time to the course, all was superb. Will definately come back
Exceptional course + staff.
First timers at Catalina Course...immediately welcomed + directed to everything we needed. Loved the course + Legends Grill!!
Great Course
The course was in great shape as always, and the staff were very attentative.
Fantastic greens
Course was in great shape with the greens being almost perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful.
love the course
great value in the summer, classic course, not desert golf. favorite place to play.
This course is very good.
There is very wonderful & best course for our local.
This course is a treasure.
With two very different 18 hole tracks, the Omni Tucson National resort is one of our favorite courses to play. My partner and I recently played the Catalina side and found the course to be in great shape. The greens were firm, but speeds were a bit unpredictable. The tee boxes were perfect and most of the fairways were in great shape, except for #10 which had been aerated and the plugs remained on the fairway. Otherwise, the overall play-ability of this course is as good as it gets. Additionally, the staff are among the most friendly, accomodating and professional in Tucson.
Great in every way
Course was in prime condition with college tournament in progress and US Open qualifying coming up. Greens fast and true, fairways superb, pace of play 4 hrs.
The course was well maintained, very picturesque, and a great value for the money.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Catalina course. It was beautiful and well maintained. The sand traps were a bit challenging and could use some softer sand. The pace of play in the afternoon was fast and we barely had to wait on any holes. We would definitely play this course again.
GREAT COURSE!!! Want to play again!!
This was a great course... In my mind it played shorter then it appears as you can get good roll and if you are long enough to carry certain points you can shorten it up quick!! Im a 15 hcp and I enjoyed every part of this course...
Best putting greens in Tucson
Tucson Omni is consistently an enjoyable golf outing. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
Amenities similar to a nice private club.
Course is in excellent shape, and the greens were great, fast and true.
Only down side is that a fair amount of local course knowledge is essential.
It's always a good day to play at Omni.
Great Course, excellent value
I prefer the Catalina Course, but the Sonoran is very good and more difficult because its a desert layout. Nice condiiton. Best greens in Tucson.
Still Good, but not like it used to be.
I hadn't played Tucson National-Catalina for about two years. While the course is still in good shape, unfortunately it is not quite at the condition it used to be. The greens were very good to almost excellent, with a medium fast speed. They rolled fine but not at the pace they used to be at.
One of the biggest differences was in the condition of the fairways. Prior years the fairways were almost better than most courses' greens. This time, they were just like any other course. Acceptable but not in the pristine condition they used to be.
The layout of the course is awesome, no complaints there.
Staff was friendly, again no complaints.
The beer prices have gone up considerably since the last time, $24 for a six pack to go, up from $15 two years ago.
I guess the course in my opinion went from being arguably the best kept in the area to just being as good as most, nothing better.
Still a great value, and I would play again for under $65, but would look elsewhere if more than that.
Nice conditioned traditional layout
Greens were great, well maintained. Food in bar was excellent.
Overall this course provides challenges for all levels and great course conditions.
I played this course on thursday afternoon with friend. Arrived and staff met us to assist with any help and information. As we began our round there was no wait on the tee which allowed us to play at a good pace. Course condition was excellent from tee to green. Greens where fast but not ridiculous. You didn't need to be a long hitter to still have opportunities to score. Would recommend this course for all to play.
Great place to test your skills
The course is in great shape. Memorable afternoon.
The greens were in tremendous shape. Areas around the green were well manicured, traps were taken care of on a consistent basis.
Overall, the course was a real treat. Finding a deal on Golfnow to play here was very nice as well being a college kid on a budget. The course was in great shape and was a lot of fun to play. The staff was very friendly and accommodating even though we were not staying at the resort. I would play here again without a doubt.
Top Notch Tucson Course
My first time playing at Tucson National. Course was in phenomenal shape even several months after over-seeding. Not 1 single complaint besides a slow group in front of us. Gave us time to hit extra putts. Worth every dollar! Dont forget to stop by Legends Bar & Grill afterwards!
