Rating 70.9

The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

Need a pace of play ranger

As the ratings indicate, overall it’s a fine course. Fairways are a little thin and greens a little bumpy, but that’s a function of this time of year in Tucson. What is unacceptable as a pace of play of five hours at three in the afternoon. if you’re going to put players out at 10 minute intervals, you need to have a pace of play Ranger on the course. Standing around waiting to hit shots for 10 minutes takes away a lot of the enjoyment of the course.

Nice course

Only a few memorable holes. Greens very firm,

Usually need to land 10yrs less than pin yardage. Arizona National much more scenic, elevation changes and challenging.

Rain Day

Most rain on one day in 110 years!

Course drained pretty well until the afternoon. Staff was great. Cart path only made the day a bit long. But all in all a great course even in the rain.

Catalina course

Always a good change of pace to play here in the desert. Seems like they’ve let some spots in a few fairways get away from them and go to dirt patches. Some odd water standing areas as well. Hopefully it’s all a result of the overseed process and it’ll be back to the perfection it was in the past. Still a great joint, good team and classic layout

Handicap players

The course is a beautiful course which I recommend to everyone EXCEPT HANDICAP TO PLAYERS. Before playing I told the starter I use a Handicap Flag when I play. I asked questions about the course and he said it should not be a problem and I was given no options. I found out during play that they block anyone from getting closer than roughly 100 yards from the green on every green unless you get on the cart path. This is not what a handicap player should have to do. I am fighting cancer, have a rod on n my leg and a am 72 years old. I struggled greatly to finish. I found out afterwards that they have a way to turn the carts off so that a cart can get close to the green. The starter was a complete jerk for not helping me out in this situation. I am seriously telling anybody that uses a handicap flap to make sure you are treated correctly, as they must not care if someone suffers or died because of this.

I give 0 stars for empathy to handicap players. DONT PLAY AT ALL.

Great Value!

We played the Catalina course on a very windy day. The course is an old school design and wasn't in prime condition when we played. Still very playable but not immaculate. The Sonoran course was still closed but looked like the better layout and will probably be pristine when they open it again in a few weeks. The Catalina course is probably a 4 star when in prime condition. I only say this when compared to other high end courses in the Tucson area and the Sonoran course. The facility is great if not a bit isolated. If you were staying for a few days this facility would be a wonderful time as there are two courses and a great practice area. For the price we paid it is a great value and totally worth the money.
