Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
About
One of two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses at this Tucson resort, the Canyon Course at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon is classic desert golf, set against the backdrop of the Sonoran Desert enhanced by its surroundings of saguaros, deer, roadrunners, quail and birds. The 6,836-yard, par-72 layout rolls through the Esperro Canyon, incorporating a massive formation known as Whaleback Rock in its design. The golf course has several memorable holes, including a couple of difficult par 3s - the 13th and 16th - as well as the reachable par-5 finishing hole, which features a man-made waterfall.

Golfer Reviews
Pack a lunch!
Took five and a half hours to play. Ranger didn't seem concerned with pace of play.
Hi Engineer, we're sorry to hear pace of play wasn't quite up to our usual standards. If you'd like to speak with someone in the Pro Shop about your experience, please give us a call at (520) 577-1400. We hope to see you again soon!
One of the best
Difficult course to play the first time due to the travel distances between some of the holes but the course was in excellent condition other than a couple of thin spots in some fairways. The greens were smooth, rolled true and very quick. Overall a very very nice course.
We're glad you enjoyed your time with us, David. Be sure to book another round at Ventana Canyon soon!
Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the 5-star review!

Thanks for saying so, Garry! Thanks for the 5-star review, be sure to book another round with us soon.
Great summer golf
Great summer golf day in Tucson! Played the Canyon Course, was in excellent shape, fast greens. Always enjoy being in the Catalina Mountains, wonderful vistas, majestic setting.
We're glad to hear it, Roadman. Thanks for the 5-star review, be sure to book another round with us soon!
Gorgeous Challenge
From the start....staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Jay and Scott were very helpful. The course was in great condition! The greens were extremly difficult....lines and slope were most challenging....but condition was great. Overall it was a 5 out of 5 star experience!@
We're glad to hear you enjoyed your time with us, Nik! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Great course
Great course, but they need bathrooms near the pro shop on the canyon course
Thanks for the 4-star review!
Worst Managed Property
Good luck finding Canyon Course, even though the clueless security guard misdirects you, naming the wrong street to turn into. Zero signage directing you to "Canyon Course" but plenty of signs directing you to various Loews facilities. Rude, condescending staff when you ask for specifics/help, no obvious bag drop, zero parking (because of hotel events). Rick in golf shop could care less about the experience prior to arrival, "but write a review on GolfNow because others have complained about the signage, and nothing will get fixed unless you complain." Smarmy bag boy making snide comments under his breath and over their radios -- great customer service. Non-equity club, apparently, so if the service & experience are abysmal, no skin off the members backs, but perhaps that's by design? Won't ever play again/recommend this property.
I appreciate you taking time to leave us a review, and I want to apologize for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, the hotel owns the parking lot and had a large conference. My bag staff was positioned in the parking lot to drive players to overflow lots and help them with their bags and directions, but logistics can be difficult when the parking lot is full.
I've also been informed of the radio chatter incident, and I can assure you that all involved have been disciplined. You have my personal apology for any offense caused. I'd love a chance to change your mind about the course, so if you'd be willing to give us another shot, your next round is on me.
Please reach out to me personally if that's something you're interested in. Regardless, I appreciate you coming out to Ventana Canyon and I wish you nothing but the best.

Beautiful course in great shape
My biggest grip was the greens which are hard to read and extremely fast. I must have lost 10 strokes to the greens.
Pin placement was tough but to be fair there aren’t a lot of flat spots on these greens. U need to play it more than once or twice a year to get used to the greens.
Thanks for the 4-star review, Ron! Come see us again soon, we're sure you'll have a better time around now that you've seen the greens before.
Thanks for the 4-star review!

Play on the sandy greens not real
The greens were filled with sand, this condition is not considered normal. Putting can be scratched off the playing card. Your score will not count, not a real round of golf.
Upsetting at the least!
Hi Dan, we're sorry to hear you were disappointed about the course conditions, but aeration is a necessary part of keeping our greens healthy. The impact is typically minimal, and the greens tend to heal quickly, so we hope you'll book another round with us soon to see the results firsthand!
Thanks for the 5-star review. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Always perfect
Great course all the time. Incredible views and the course is in perfect shape.
We appreciate the 5-star review! Be sure to book another round with us soon.
Greens Aerated Sanded
Fairways and grass around greens in great shape. Greens just aerated and sanded, never saw snack cart entire after turn. Dropping clubs off up top no the most convenient thing to do and carry them down stairs.
We appreciate the honest review, Hoff, Thanks for taking time to review us on Golf Advisor. If you'd like to speak with someone at the Pro Shop about your experience, please give us a call at (520) 577-1400.
Perfect weather for golf
A challenging but scenic golf course. It’s surely one of my favorites.
Thanks for the 5-star review!
Great experience
The Mountain course is in excellent shape. The greens were a little bit bumpy due to aeration, but still very fast. Women’s tee boxes are excellent compared to most courses.Immaculate!
Thanks for the 5-star review, Jogi! Come see us again soon.
Beautiful setting , fun course layout.
Nice experience to play this course but very awkward check in, plan extra time as it takes an extra 20-30 minutes compared to most courses. Took so long finding where to check in then to cart down to 1st tee, had no time for practice or warm up. Greens had just been aerated and top dressed, no mention of that on tee time site. One last picky thing - a course with high end green fees should have golf towels on every cart, not many ball washers on course.. However, in balance an enjoyable well conditioned course.
Hi Marsalis, we appreciate the honest review. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your round at Ventana Canyon! Be sure to book another round with us soon.
