Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
About
One of two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses at this Tucson resort, the Canyon Course at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon is classic desert golf, set against the backdrop of the Sonoran Desert enhanced by its surroundings of saguaros, deer, roadrunners, quail and birds. The 6,836-yard, par-72 layout rolls through the Esperro Canyon, incorporating a massive formation known as Whaleback Rock in its design. The golf course has several memorable holes, including a couple of difficult par 3s - the 13th and 16th - as well as the reachable par-5 finishing hole, which features a man-made waterfall.

Golfer Reviews
Outstanding! Definitely play it!!
Beautiful layout, conditioning, and fairness. My wife and I loved it!
Add it to your bucket list!
Best course ever played
these courses are the two best courses I've played in Az. You could not ask of anything better. Perfect from tee to green...conditions were immaculate..the Mt course has better views and scenery, the canyon course is a little easier to score on....Russ the starter is one of the nicest, most knowledgable starter I ever met...the only bummer was the $8.00 hot dog...come on man!!! Really, $8 for a hot dog
One word: Awesome!!
This is a great course! We got lost going to the first tee of the Mountain Course. It wasn't the easiest to find, but, finally, with help, we found it and enjoyed the day!!
Tough course in great shape.
A country club type reception followed by a challenging round on a course in great condition. Really fun holes and even tough I didn't score as low as I would have preferred, it was a great day on the links.
sloppy customer service
We arrived at the course and checked in without a problem but when we talked to the starter he informed us we were not on his sheet. Turns out we were double booked and they offered to have us play as a two-some surrounded by foursomes.
Then when we inquired about how this happened, we were told by Kevin at the pro shop that this "happens all the time". So, through no fault of our own we were basically forced to take a raincheck or get a refund. problem is, if you drove down from Phoenix, I don't think this would make you too happy. The staff at the pro shop was very willing to take our money but quite reluctant to accommodate us in a fair fashion.
The customer service needs a lot of work, in my opinion. The root of this issue seems to stem from the pro shop staff not notifying golfnow that our tee time was already taken by someone else, a problem entirely of their making so they really should have bent over backwards to rectify the situtation. Instead, we were given curt answers to our questions as if we were inconveniencing them.
The course looked great but we decided to get rain checks as this whole experience left a sour taste in our mouths. I don't think I'll play this course for a while as a result, which is a shame because the course itself is fantastic.
Canyon course
A beautiful course . A lot of driving in cart from where picked up cart and in between holes. first time players easy to get confused as to which way to go sometimes. The course was in excellent shape but where stuck behind a shotgun tournament so the round was quite slow. Staff was very friendly. Would recommend this course just hopefully you don't get stuck behind tournament. Great if you can get deal on golf now. I don't think it is worth the full price. If you can get a deal I would say a must play course. Many scenic holes and would like to come back and p[lay the mountain course one day. Watch out on 18's approach shot . Can't be short, long , left or right. I was long
Beautiful foothills golf course
Played Mountain course. Loved it. Fair test of golf for both men and women. Views are incredible. Highly recommended.
Excellent course in Tucson!
I thought the course was very fun and challenging. The fairways were in great shape and the greens were hard and fast. The pace of place was a little slower than I liked, but it gave me time to enjoy the beautiful scenery. This is a must play when in the Tucson area!
Great views and wonderful golf
Was not disappointed. Challenging layout and in terrific shape. Good course and value. Should not miss it if in Tucson area.
Mtn
played this course 7 times and it is very good. only issue i have is that I was a single who was paired with 3 others who missed their tee-time. Russ the starter did his best to pair me up - played with instructor Dave Simm and his student. Unfortunately they stopped after 9 holes and a single behind 4 senior members who played very slow and would not let me play thru was a bad experience. I quit after the 12th as 3 hrs- 45 minutes was a waste of my time
Beautiful Course
Played the Mountain Course twice from the gold tees during our Tucson vacation. Course was in very good condition. Greens were wonderful to putt on though faster than I was used to, especially in my off-season. Fairways offered plenty of room in the landing areas. Course requires good distance control to score well, which I didn't, but it is a very fair layout and creates a beautiful setting. Signature hole is #3 where we used the Black tees for the view (only 107 yds downhill).
A fair value at the GolfNow rates.
Proud of that 3 rd hole !
Course didn't live up to all the hype. Seemed to cater to residents there more so than nonresidents. Very inconvenient to even get to the clubhouse from the parking lot and then back again. It was 3/4 of a mile to the range. Wasn't impressed.
Beautiful course
The course was beautiful. Spectacular views and enjoyed the elevated tees and playing over small canyons and over cactus gardens, etc. Unfortunately we had some fairly strong winds to deal with, but wouldn't have missed playing just because of that. Would love to come back and play it again along with the canyon course.
Beautiful desert course
The course is outstanding! We have played here before and both times it was in great condition.
The initial process is less than accommodating with no one to meet you curbside to let you know where the clubs go and where you go. There is a bit of a walk with a lot of steps to get to the pro shop and then down large steps to get to the starter. It isn't bad if your knees are better than mine.
Once at the starter area we found the starter and the entire staff to be very friendly and helpful. They are well organized and the practice area is very nice.
All in all, a fun day! We will go back again!
