Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
About
One of two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses at this Tucson resort, the Canyon Course at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon is classic desert golf, set against the backdrop of the Sonoran Desert enhanced by its surroundings of saguaros, deer, roadrunners, quail and birds. The 6,836-yard, par-72 layout rolls through the Esperro Canyon, incorporating a massive formation known as Whaleback Rock in its design. The golf course has several memorable holes, including a couple of difficult par 3s - the 13th and 16th - as well as the reachable par-5 finishing hole, which features a man-made waterfall.

Challenging yet conquerable
Both Courses play well! I'm still a novice with a 16 Handicap. We played the Gold Tees on both courses about 6300 Yards. I can say challenging, but I was still able to shot in the mid 90's. Worth the Play!
One of the best in the Tucson area!
Interesting well maintained course. What you see is what you get...
Good Fazio Design
My friends and I played the Mountain and Canyon courses. Both were in excellent condition. We really like the fact that we never felt pushed or had to wait a lot. Overall, I'd give the Mountain course a 4.5 rating, and the Canyon a 3.75. The Mountain flowed better, was less spread out, and was more interesting. The food at the Lodge was good, but avoid the shack at the range. Limited selection and much like an average muni.
Great Value
Course was in good shape and staff was attentive to your needs.
Annoying maintenance
Mowers were on course all day both days, unheard of with a course if this caliber. Very annoying!!!
great experence
very good all around staff course food and total experence
Good course ok value
Good course with nice views. Views aren't as good as mt. Course.
Great Conditon but!!
Played this course for the first time and while very impressed with overall condition compared to Arizona National, Starr Pass, Dove Mountain I must admit I found the layout somewhat boring. If you want a true desert course experience this is not it.
Ordered and ate a tuna salad sandwich as well halfway through my round which ended up giving me food poisoning for three days so obviously issues with food preparation and quality that detract from this course as well.
Apart from the food poisoning problem, I am glad I played this course but will not go back as there is too many true desert courses out there at much better value.
Enjoyable round
Like everyone said before me- it's not easy to find where you drop off your clubs, or where the Pro Shop is but once that's solved the course is great. Very fair off the tees with nice landing areas. The greens are big and in great shape. The course meanders around a residential area with beautiful views of the Catalina mountains and surrounding area. Very beautiful vistas from the tee boxes. I would recommend playing here.
great weather
Weather was awesome. There is an issue between the Resort and Golf course, not sure exactly what.
MUST PLAY COURSE
Put this one on your bucket list! From the moment you arrive, the staff makes this a fantastic experience! The equipment is top notch, the practice facility is great, and the golf course is fantastic. From tee box to green, it is perfection. While challenging, it is very playable. The beauty on every hole is breathtaking. You owe it to yourself to play this course.
my favorite course in Tucson
Every time we come to Tucson we try and play both these courses. I don't prefer one over the other as I love them both. These courses are excellent for the average golfer. There is not too much carry or trouble to get in to.
Gorgeous well maintained. Our favorite course in Tucson
What a beautiful and accessible but challenging course. Ladies get some decent advantages. Staff wonderfully helpfull. We all thought this our favorite course in Tucson area.
Beautiful course
Beautiful and worthwhile course to play. Took awhile to finally get to the right place, but once we started playing we had a great time!
Gorgeous setting
Beautiful course. Paired up with another single and a twosome. Unfortunately the twosome refused to play tees appropriate to their skill level which slowed our round considerably and resulted in a visit from an extremely rude marshall. Disappointed that we only saw the cart girl one time during the round - expected better service from a high end course. Course was in great shape and presented the opportunity to play every club in my bag.
A visual treat
Ventana Canyon (Canyon Course) was fabulous from the minute we arrived. The only thing difficult was finding the pro shop. We had 2 threesomes of golfers and from the minute I arrived at the pro shop, they called for assistance to have our bags taken to the cart area. The staff member there Gave us a wonderful orientation to the course, and where things are located, things to watch for and the flow of the course and location of the pins. The course itself showcases Tucson's mountains, terrain and valley views. What a delightful day, and we are already planning to go back in the summer when the rates are less expensive. We had family visiting from the Midwest and they had never been to such a wonderful golf course!!! Impressive!
Ventana mountain course
Excellent resort course .hard to find due to lack of signage however worth the effort
A nice balance of resort golf and difficulty
Would definitely play her again on a return visit
Great golf course
Interesting hole designs, lot of variety. Course was in perfect condition with very fast greens. Pricey but worth it.
Loved it
My wife and I loved it so much we decided to stay a few nights and play more rounds.
Best course ever palyed
Amazing layout, spectacular holes, we really love the course.
Need to try if you are in the area.
Earlier in the week we played the Dove Mountain, I think for ratio quality price payed it was the best of the two...
