Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Course Review
Greens were not in very good shape from other times that I have played before so hopefully there preparing for better conditions
The teeing grounds and greens are a little bare and therefore difficult to play and putt. The teeing grounds on some holes need to be leveled. The hole locations should concern the condition of the putting surface. Some hole locations today were very difficult to two-putt. Our foursomes had a number of three-putts or more. The bunkers need to cleaned up and the grass edges need some maintenance.
So-so condition
The course isn’t in very good shape. The greens are pretty good but instead of rough there is dirt on all holes, making it very hard to make a decent shot. The fairway is in just fair condition.
Haven’t golfed here in quite a while but don’t remember the course been in this shape!
Great value! Great learning course
If you’re just starting out or if your an mid/high handicapper and looking to break into the lower numbers and want to improve this is the course. It’s challenging but also not brutal where if you miss hit you lose balls all day.

Nice Course
Haven't played this course for several years. A nice job has been done bringing it back into playing condition. Greens are tough and fairways in good shape. Lots of beautiful, mature trees line the fairways. A challenging course that is in better shape than most courses I've played in the Tucson area. Only complaint is we had to wait on every, single shot. 5+ hour round.
Bad greens
The greens were so hard and so fast you could not get the ball to stop. The pin position was on the most slope the greens would allow. I had 23 putts on the first 9 holes. I have never done that. even when I first starded to play. If you're off the fairway, the ball will never stop. It's like hitting on concrete.
