Ok to work on your game
Clubhouse still closed for remodeling, carts old, cart paths (although some paved) are very bad or none existent. Play can be slow.
On the good, greens relatively fast, hold ok, bunkers better than most other Tucson municipal’s. Good value compared as well. A place to work on the game. Desert style layout a bit rough around the edges. Course restroom smells worse than most barnyards. Multiple tee choices make for fun play.
Restaurant is closed for under repairs but they is a small snack area that is unmarked. It closes at 2:00 pm while many are on the course. Why not keep it open to 5 or 6pm or put in a vending area for snacks and drinks .It would be nice to be able to get a drink after the round and relax before driving home. Love the course layout and it is improving. Also put in a 9 hole rate for after 4:00pm walking or riding
Tucson's best buy
Play was extremely slow - on 7, I could've hit the group ahead of the group ahead of me (4.5 hours to complete 18). Typical for this time of year and post Covid spike in golf popularity. It is the #1 general complaint for new golfers and TeeOff reviewers ... slow play. Large yardage variation for the different tee areas. Course is currently in great condition (normal for after reseeding) - unlike, say, 49ers (where every ball is a mud ball and the fairways are half 6-inch grass and half dead). Greens are very playable. Carts always work (unlike 49ers). This is the rare desert course with great views, I always get to see multiple coyotes (saw eight together once). This course has always been a best buy for city courses - so is highly recommended. It is longer (from the back tees) than most courses (like Starr Pass), similar to Randolph North.
Pace of play was extremely slow we think secondary to so many "singles" playing who weren't interested in joining anybody. Could space starting times better perhaps.
We found the course very challenging, wet and a bit muddy. I guess you would expect that this close to the over seeding re-opening.
Good Value for the Buck.
OK, this was the first time playing the course. Weather was a bit hot but OK. No cart paths on the front kinda killed the overall beauty of it. The front nine was great. Just don't get off the fairway, or you are in jail! if you find your ball at all because it rolls forever. They must have been sending groups off the back 9 because when we made the turn, there was a twosome teeing off in front of us we had not seen on the front nine. At one point we had four groups on one hole and it stayed that way until 18. We had no slowdown on the entire front nine. Hole 12, score cards are hard to read but on hole 12, it showed fairway on both sides of the trees. There is no faraway to the left of the trees at all. All hardpan. You can't see anything between you and the 250 yd marker which looks like the 150 yd marker from that distance. No hole layouts for the unfamiliar players. No suggestions from anyone about certain holes. A couple of confusing holes but overall a very nice course for the money. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all great. We will play again knowing more about the course now..
Been playing Enke for 20+ years and always enjoy it. It's a fair and enjoyable desert layout. It is not the best choice for the new golfer which was the case today. Pace was very slow. That aside it's a value at the price.
I would only recommend this course for its layout. Very fun and just challenging enough.
The dunderheaded city still requires a mask inside. Cart path only getting old, really slows play with old folk. Not sure why you can’t cart in the rough. Fairways nice. Greens rough.
Still cart path only, difficult because no real continuous paths, players drive all over and some muddy conditions exist. Sand looked OK, greens good on front, slower on back but rolled and held fine. Fairways good, may divots (mostly unfilled). I’ve always like their layout, and if play moves along, a nice place to play. Still can’t help but ask…..no continuous cart paths ($?), clubhouse closed due to remodeling (for months), very old cart fleet (mine died on 11). Personnel friendly, reasonable price, desert golf experience, just a bit rough around the edges.
Course in good condition
Haven't played this course in 2 years and was pleasantly surprised in its condition. The brush has been cleared which opened up the fairways. Fairways were in great condition, the best I have ever witnesed.
