El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Conquistador Course

Course is in bad shape. Fairways are either burnt and patchy or bare and muddy. Greens are very bumpy and slow. No course map which, combined with many blind tee shots, became very frustrating after a few holes. The course doesn't go past the clubhouse at any point in the round except at 1 tee and 18 green. No food or beverage service during play. There was drinking water in coolers every few holes but the water was air temp and on a day with the temp over 100 degrees, that's not too appealing.

Very disappointed.

The course is a little tattered, looks like they need a bigger maintenance budget.....

We were a twosome. All the personnel with whom we interfaced were friendly and excellent in their demeanour. The warm up range was a disappointment, we were required to hit from mats. We only used our "desert club" to warm up because of the mats. The course is a friendly, challenging track. The maintenance was good, especially considering the drought and temps in the low 100's. The fairways were cut at a good height to facilitate good play. Greens were slower than I am used to. However, this could be the result of growing the greens longer to protect them from the 100+ degree temps. We played the first 11 holes in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, shooting just below our handicaps. On the 12th hole we caught the twosome in front of us, who had at some point caught the group in front of them. From that point on, that twosome and we had to wait on every shot. The group in front of the two twosomes showed no interest or desire to pick up the pace of play or to allow the faster groups to play through as is the normal etiquette. As the result, the last 7 holes took nearly two hours to play. There was no player ambassador on the course. We will play again.

The greens were in good shape as they normally are.

The fairways had some spots that were getting dry.

Coarse, buildings and carts need upgraded. Fairways are brown with little grass. Greens were great! I would not go back. There are much nicer courses to play in the area for the same price.

Played it on 4/5...first time in quite a while. Course in now city owned and even though it is losing money they have done a tremendous job keeping the course in great shape. Will be playing it again soon.

Would be nice if they had marshals working on busy days

This course was in great shape. The raised greens will challenge any golfer. Enjoy'

This is a very good course, that could be better.

I played the Conquistador course, primarily because it has bent grass greens. Being from the Midwest we play bent all the time. In this instance I was very disappointed. They were possibly the slowest greens I have ever played on. NONE of our foursome could get the ball to the hole. I also thought the grass on the teeboxes was too long. Maybe these conditions are brought about by 'desert ' temperatures, but this was the 14th course I have played in the Tucson area in 3 weeks, and these conditions were 'overly cautious ', in my opinion.

NOW, that all being said, I would definitely come back here. The views are magnificent, the staff super. There are homes on every hole, but, it's a resort course!

I'm trying to squeeze in the Canada course ( different grens ) before I leave.

This is meant to be constructive criticism. Hopefully the right people read this and may be able to do some tweaks.

Need new batteries. Twice the cars batteries are very weak by mid way through back nine

I took two friends to play the Conquistador course and we really enjoyed the golf. The pace of play was great, because the course was surprisingly empty. The course is in much better condition than it was two years ago, during its transition. Our only real observation that was negative was the greens were a little shaggy and extremely slow. You really had to hit your putts hard. All in all, I would play this course again.

Played 18 holes in less than 4 hours. Enjoyed the course.

We thoroughly enjoyed golfing this challenging course! Starter paired us with another couple who had played the course before. That was very helpful, as the scorecard didn't have a course layout on it. Fairways were in great shape! Greens were a bit long and slow, but we adjusted. It did take us five hours to play only because a couple jumped in front of us on #10, or they got lost. We hope to play again!

The course was in great shape, lost of green grass on the fairways and around the greens. The tee boxes and the green were in desperate need of a cut. The grass was fair to long, greens played slow, ball felt like you were hitting of the shorter rough on the tea boxes.

The course and greens were both in great shape. We played our round in 4 hours with little to no delays except for one 3 par on the back nine. The starter was very nice and made sure to ask us how the round went after we finished.
