Crooked Tree
Nice course. Good pace of play. Wish they would open the restaurant!
Good value for everyday golf, not one for taking out of town visitors, family or friends
Solid driving range with several pitching areas, avg putting area, course is layed out nicely with good fairways, greens are in solid condition, rough is cut short and left to die, all money/time/energy spent on fairways and greens which most of us who play there are ok with but they have let bunkers go, no sand, filled in with grass, carts are in sore need of repair/replacement, no cart service so need to bring your own drinks
Hit it straight at Crooked Tree!
Enjoyed playing this course. Luckily, I played with a threesome who play there regularly so I was reminded of where I was supposed to hit the ball. I had played the course before, but needed their advice to score well.
The course is fair, and offers a good variety of holes. The grass bunkers greenside were an interesting change from sand bunkers. Personally, sand for me is more penal than heavy grass, though. I wish that the greens had been cut a little finer.
Wildcat 5
Course and conditions never disappoint. Having no sand in the traps takes a bit getting use too. Greens and fairways are in good shape. Practice facility is a good as it gets
Crooked Tree
Always a good time at the Tree. Please open the restaurant!
Fun City Course...
Crooked Tree is fun layout with a fair amount of difficulty. It is a city/county course and the conditions are consistent with what you'd expect for a muni course. The greens are scheduled to be cut within the week so they still ran a little slow, but were in good shape. The overseeding has come in average. Overall, while the course a little over priced it is a fun course to play and I would recommend checking it out.
Great Day
From the arrival at the proshop where the cheerful camaraderie was notable until turning in the cart to the pleasant individual there , it was an enjoyable experience. Replacing some sand traps with grass bunkers helped speed up play and still provided plenty of challenges. Always a treat to play the course although prices seem to be rising faster than the increases in Social Security. Thank you.
Looks to me that they did a good overseed. Greens we're a bit slow to my liking, but in good condition. Not sure about the grass sand traps, but not a bad idea if they stay the same length and condition.
Where Did the Bunkers Go?
I hadn't played Crooked Tree for a couple of years, so was surprised to see that they decided to fill all of the bunkers in with grass. I don't think I saw a single sand bunker on the entire course. Instead, the bunkers had been filled with some relatively long, wiry grass. They didn't bother to shave down the edges to eliminate the bunker contours, they just planted grass in them. It was weird. Maybe they feel that maintaining bunkers is too much work or not cost-effective? In my mind, that's just a lack of proper training of the grounds crew. Or maybe they thought that bunkers make the course too difficult? Sorry, but ALL decent golf courses, including most every muni, has sand bunkers. They are part of the game. The rest of the course was fine, the overseed is coming in nicely (though it made for incredibly slow putting!), and we enjoyed our round. But to remove the bunkers and still charge what they do for greens fees, I doubt I'll be back any time soon.
No more Bunkers
Sadly Crooked Tree has gone down hill since the pandemic.
They’ve removed all bunkers on the coarse and just filled them with gigantic rough grass. Coarse is nice and lush from all the rain but all the greens, even the practice green where not cut down or rolled. So figure about a 4 on the stemp meter. Slow slow slow. Like putting on a fairway. For $50 your money could be spent elsewhere. Drop another $20 and play a much better coarse nearby.
Good, but overpriced for over-seed conditions
The course is nice. Not overly challenging, but good for recreational play. With exception of the greens being long due to recent over-seeding, the course conditions were were good. My only complaint is that they should have provided a discount (or more of one) due to the furry greens 😕.
