Well Conditioned but boring layout
Crooked Tree in best condition in years. Greens roll very well. Kudos to grounds staff. Complaint is fairways are too narrow and dormant Bermuda rough very umpredicable. Few unique, memorable holes. Staff doesn't seem particularly welcoming. Play was slow. Had to wait on every shot..but understandable since its high season.
Great
Fun time on a fun course-would love actual sand in bunkers.
Good course.
Course in good shape this year.
Fairways good. Greens rolled good.
Solid Public Course Priced Right
After getting bounced off the tee sheet at an upscale course, I booked Crooked Tree on line, sight unseen. I had low expectations based on the price and write ups. I was pleasantly surprised by everything I experienced. After a 30 minute frost delay, we were off onto a course that was well conditioned with greens that rolled true. The bunkers are a bit shaky, but it is easy to avoid most of them. The layout is interesting, but not funky, and there is plenty of roll in the fairways. I played with 3 guys in their 70's, all of whom walk the course 3 or 4 times a week. We played in exactly 4 hours. I enjoyed my day with them, as their experience helped me shoot a 7 bogey, 79. The staff was a bit worn by the public they face and I really do not like the starter calling golfers to the tee over the PA system in the Pro Shop. Give me a friendly guy with a clipboard and a few stories and I am happy. I can give CT a pass on their shortcomings and firmly state that it is a great value, public warmly welcomed, course north of the city.
Crooked Tree
Friendly staff, nice driving range. Interesting course with a variety of greens (simple to multi-level). No course diagrams anywhere. We followed a painfully slow group for 9 holes. Once they dropped out pace of play improved exponentially. Fun for practice round.
Nice Course
Could have used a map or diagram but just following the group in front of us saved us from getting lost. Fun course, not real challenging but interesting. Saw coyotes. Greens in nice shape.
Course is in good shape
Greens very fast and true. Fairways grown in nicely. Rough dormant with varying playability.
Good condition
Very friendly staff, course in very good condition. Good fairways and excellent greens. Good layout give it a try. Pace of play great on the front nine but slow on the back nine. First time on the course, will be back.
Slow play at Crooked Tree
We played Crooked Tree for the 1st time. Check-in was quick and friendly. Range and putting greens are very nice. Course was in good condition and weather was warm and slightly breezy at times but a great weather day for golf in December.
The round was very slow, nearly 5 hours to play. No course manager on the course and walking 4-somes seemed to be the hold-up on the course. The "beverage cart" lady was extremely friendly and she kept apologizing the the slow play.
In summary, we enjoyed the course play and conditions and our only disappointment was pace of play.
GREEN grass
The reseed was very successful at Crooked Tree this year........the rain that followed helped a lot..........and the fairways and greens are in excellent condition. The staff is always friendly, and as usual, this course remains the best golf value in the Tucson metro area.
The course (fairways and greens) looks beautiful and plays great
Fairways and greens are beautifully green and in good shape. Putting a little slow, probably because still in after over-seeding mode, but a reasonable speed. The greens seem to receive shots quite nicely.
So I have reviewed this course before, and the worst part of the course conditions are the traps. Hard dried out sand (dirt mixture?). So, don't hit into them, LOL.
Quite often, the ball is sitting up on the top of the sand, so I just do a chipping stroke to get the ball out.
The layout is fairly simple with a lot of up and back holes. If you don't hit it straight you may find yourself in desert conditions, but almost all holes have enough short rough so that you hit the ball just fine without worrying about damaging your club.
There are about 3 holes with water to challenge you that way, and the white tees play at about 6200 yards, There is only 1 par 3 that is long at almost 200 yards - the three other par 3's are middle irons off the tee box. They have 2 sets of combo tees, easily marked on the scorecard, so you should be able to find the right set of tees for your ability/length.
I like the course for play-ability and moderate price.
The course has fabulous practice areas with a driving range, large putting green, chipping areas and greens, and practice sand. Come early so you can take advantage of those areas.
Go elsewhere
The pro shop staff was excellent, the restaurant staff should start looking for employment elsewhere, and not where they have any contact with customers or even humans. Will not play there again.
Good Course.
Tee boxes need leveling. Too rounded.
Fairways are getting better every year.
Need more deals to play. For same price, I usually play better courses.
Terrible Condition
The Fairway's, Tees and Greens grass were way to slow because they refuse to mow them to playable height's, and they are putting too much water on the fairways so you have mud on the ball most of the time in the fairway, and the Bunkers were Mud Holes . I have never seen the course in such horrible conditions,
