Golfer Reviews
Just sad
To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The attitude and morale of the pro shop was a poor first impression. Also, the fact that they made my friend pay 70 dollars for his 4 year old son to ride along. Which was the rate to play golf. I can understand a cart fee but the full rate is pretty outrageous. The course was nothing to rave about either. The inconsistencies of the greens and fairways gave you a 50/50 shot of a somewhat decent lye. Definitely not somewhere to go if you're looking to improve your game. Especially the short game with all the crabgrass clumps on the greens. However, the 19th hole practice tee box was in great condition but low and behold was closed. The ranger is not friendly. His social skills are limited to mean mugging you until you finish the hole. The saving grace of this course was the restaurant. The waitress and chef had the most personality out of the whole course. Happy to help and provide an enjoyable experience. 5 stars to the restaurant! Based on quality and staff this should realistically be a $30-50 round!
Save your money
Worst experience I have ever had…. Terrible customer service by Roger at the pro shop, $70 greens fees for popcorn greens that should cost $10 for a beginner to play on. This place used to be a hidden gem…. More like fools gold now unfortunately…..
Hate to say this …
Wow - hate to say this because I really like this course and staff but … I found this course in really really poor condition. Weeds tee thru and on green. Greens unputtable due to weeds that were longer than the grass - bumpy doesn’t describe. It is a fun layout. The challenge normally comes from hitting the greens with approach shots which is fun. Should have just stayed home or just gone to a practice range for the day.
Conditions
Course was in decent shape but the greens were terrible.
Black Bear
Great layout made very accessible from the theme park area by the 429 extension. Fun track. However, conditions were not up to its usual standards. Staff needs to remain vigilant or the course could go south fast. Areas around the greens need attention. Fairways needs some loving care.
Conditions not worth $70
Great layout and amenities but the conditions are not worth $70. There seems to be a trend with central Florida courses lately. High green fees and poor quality tee boxes, fairways and horrendous greens. Charge $40 and I’ll understand.
Poor shape
Played the course a year ago and it’s not as nice as it was. Plants growing in bunkers & greens not in good shape, won’t go back
Way too hard for amateurs!!
Elevated greens were very different to hit and hold for recreational golfers without adequate skills.
Fun Layout, But……
I have played BB many times over the last. Pulled of years and I would have to say the the Greens were in the worst shape of anytime that Inplayed here. Fairways were OK. There has definitely been a decline in conditions. Maybe Spring will been a change.
Course was in terrible shape. Greens were awful. Fairways bare in a lot of spots. I have played there before but tnhis experience was horrible. Paid close to 70.00
To play. Overpriced. Very disappointing. Won’t be back.
Not worth the $$$
Course in bad shape, plants growing on greens and fairways were bare in many spots
Black Bear
Great course with lots of topographical changes. Plays tough in the wind. Have always enjoyed playing the course. However, conditions are not up to par. Greens were fast, but tufts of grass adversely affected puts. Areas around every green need work. Chipping was very difficult given the poor conditions. Will be back for another round in the Spring.
Narrow, raised and undulating greens
This course has some great potential but is not living up to it right now. The course is friendly off the tee boxes but the approach shot is what will always be difficult. The greens are some of the most undulating and narrow that I have ever seen. A few greens show signs of new sod and they were not leveled very well so putting through this new sod SUCKS!! I wish the grass in the fairways and rough was a bit thicker because there are no really good lies unless you roll the ball a bit before the shot. I will give it another shot know I know my way around a bit to see if my initial impressions were too harsh.
Slow play
Course is in good shape for winter, some of the greens have some form of fungus but playable. Fairways are in decent shape with not too many tight lies. The course, itself, is fun and challenging
Fast, tricky, well-protected greens
Water comes into play only on the 18th hole, when a long carry is required on the second shot to an extremely narrow green. The rest of the greens, many of them elevated, are protected by deep bunkers left and right. The greens are also fast and rolling, making even two-putts a challenge. Greens are in good condition, as are the tee boxes. Fairways are in good shape for a Florida winter.
