Can do better
Considering the deluge the day before the course was amazingly playable.
My main concern with Serenoa has always been the same.Great layout ,reasonable pricing, reasonable organisation, but let’s itself down in poor investment in maintenance of the course in general.
Could be a four/ five star course with more money spent on it.
Good layout and design
Very good design and course layout, BUT, the course requires tidying up around the edges. The fairways/tees/greens are good, but the other parts are scruffy.
Pace of play is bad, rangers do not appear to want to control pace of play - they are there, but not effective.
A lot of water.
We had been on the tail of the group in front of us on every hole. We had just waited for the group ahead to get off the par 3. We played the par 3 then proceeded to the next tee. One member in our group hits from the blue tee, because he drives 250 yards plus. The group ahead had just hit their second shots and we saw the ranger down course. The guy that hits from the blue hit his ball way past where the ranger was, in the middle. The ranger came up and demanded that we catch up. When coming off a par 3, it is going to take a minute or so. We played the hole and was again waiting on the group in front on the next tee. Not a warm fuzzy feeling toward the ranger. Not saying what I really think of his attitude and ignorance.
SLOW SLOW SLOW 5 HOUR ROUND
Serenoa is the course to play if you want a 5 hour round. Played Saturday Jan 20, 2018 with a 1:00 pm tee time. Had to wait 15 minutes and did not tee off until1:15. First hole played at a normal pace of play but the second hole, a par 3, there were 3 groups waiting on the tee and our group made group #4. How can a course put the times so close together that you have 4 groups waiting to tee off on the second hole? It took 25 minutes for us to be able to tee off on that hole. The rest of the round was wait 5+ minutes on every shot. Took 5 hours to complete and finished in the dark. The only good thing to say was the greens were smooth. This is one of those courses that jam players on for revenue with no regard to speed/pace of play. They did have a ranger on the course but complaints to him did no good.
Nice course but overbooked
Pace of play too slow. Too many groups on the course. At the turn they slipped in a single which slowed pace of play even more.
Good course.
Serenoa is an interesting layout and is in very good condition. Pace of play was slow. There was no ranger on the course, at least none we saw. Pace might have been improved if a ranger had urged a couple of slow groups to speed up play.
Slow play
Teed off behind foursome. Waited on every tee and did not see anyone in front of them. Finally at the turn they took a break and we (2) slipped in front of them. They grumbled while we teed off.after that we played at a normal rate. All in all it was a nice day on a great coarse
Pleasant Gem
Very surprised, this was the only course we could book at a good rate for he day, after reading the reviews we took a chance.
In past years the course was rated awful.
We had a great time even though the day was windy and cold.
If you make bad shots this course will kill you, but if you play smart golf it is not he slope rated, it is reasonably easy .
But that does not mean it is not a fun layout. There are no stupid holes, landing areas are great and greens attainable.
The greens, you better walk around he hole to see the breaks OR YOU WILL NOT make a put.
Worth going back.
A sunny Delight
Serenoa is the Diamond in the Rough. Great condition and a challenge if you hit your ball out of position. The staff is is awesome. Say hi to Ron the starter if able.
A great course for a great price.
Gem
I had been told I would enjoy this course, however I had no idea the fairways and greens would be so nice. My golf buddy had the best comment " if you can't hit off these fairways it's your fault " I'm sure we just hit a quiet day , but we had an exceptionally smooth round. I will try to get back.
Another Day in Paradise
I have now played Serenoa at least 6 times and it just keeps getting better.
The staff is outstanding
The course is challenging yet you can score good if you keep the ball in play.
The greens were great and the fairways almost perfect.
I have even named the two Sandhill cranes that hang out on 9 and 10. Gertrude and Heathcliff.
The included 2 beers at the end of the round is a great bonus to an already great course.
Don't miss out on this hidden jewel. You will regret it if you do.
Great course
Always love playing at Serenoa. It is very challenging for women as some of the holes are really long to make par. Overall, one of my most favorite courses in Sarasota. Course is in good condition!
Wet day Blues
We played this course The day after Thanksgiving Thanksgiving it rained the entire day got about an inch and a half the course was in great condition no court rules thank goodness a little mud here and there but completely playable course is very fine greens have some issues but still playable and fun I would recommend this course to anybody .
Good Value
Nice picturesque course, water on many holes but just hit it straight!!! Good value.
Great Value
I played this course three months ago and it was flooded. Today it was dry and fun to play . The course is not of the country club scale but for the regular guy. Go Play this course . Be ready for dogleg City . Hardly a straight hole on the course except for the par threes. Staff was awesome. 2 free beers included in the price. Who could beat that . Course did need a mower but it was minor.
I will play this course again soon.
Decent public course
Overseeding produced some soggy spots, but the starter was up front in advising us about them. Layout is interesting, better than a lot of wide open, flat Florida public courses. Lots of water, but manageable. Traps not is good shape. Greens a bit slow, but playable. Lots of wildlife provided interesting distractions, especially when waiting for a group ahead. Pace was a bit slow, but 4hrs and 15 minutes is not unreasonable. Florida public course play is usually slow. A wide variety of birds, a few gators, and a large deer herd made the pace tolerable.
Over-booked
Just, typical Florida golf course greedy-Ness. Way over booked... Tee time was pushed back. Then was behind 4 groups of 4 to start #10. Unacceptable when we aren't even in season yet
Nice and friendly corse
Unfortunately the course had been over seeded the day before so we could not drive on the i fairway but still we played in just over four hours not bad.
I think this course will be fine in a week or so. Absolutely good value for money 20.00 inc. two draft beer
