Palms Golf Club

About
Palms Golf Course is a championship course that combines desert and traditional golf. Formerly called Peppermill, the course is Mesquite's oldest 18-hole course and offers one of the city's most unique rounds. The course is truly like playing two courses in one. The front nine has a classic design with fairly flat and open fairways that give way to tight, tree-lined driving areas. Save for one hole, water comes into play on every hole on the front nine starting with the second, which is the course's no. 1 handicap. Water can be found along the entire left side of the fairways and you'll also face a pair of bunkers guarding the right side and three more behind the green. The elevated tees on the back nine provide scenic views of the desert terrain covered with sagebrush and tumbleweeds, a dramatically different landscape that the previous nine.

Good Desert Course
As many have noted, this course has two personalities between the front nine and back nine. On the front nine, the holes were pretty straight forward, but very frustrating because a ball could land two feet in front of the green and die in four inches of grass. The back nine meandered through washes and draws of the desert, presenting many challenges of steep inclines and major drops in elevation. This is where course knowledge was very important so you don't hit a driver through a dogleg. Overall, a fun course.
Unexpected gem
It had been many years since I last played the course amd I had forgotten the beauty of it. Challenging and fun. The staff were all very friendly and professional.
Bring bug spray. For some reason, there are aggressive horse flies that bite. They aren't overly bothersome, but they'll get your attention.
Will play again.
Awesome
Only complaint was they had a hole wash out, and created 2 out of one, I'm sure under standard conditions "Awesome " is a great descriptor. Will definitely play again
The Palms is a good starter course, fairly forgiving layout. Some of the greens and fairways are always in need of some work and it is a bit overpriced compared to other courses in the area.
Overpriced
Rode the Whites (6178/70.6/125) in 4.5H early morning. Wind was in the 25mph range for 10 holes, then settled down into just breezy. 65 and partly cloudy. Matched up with Jim x 2, both pleasant guys to golf with.
Tees mostly good with only a few needing divot attention.
Fairways were lush and nice to play from.
Rough was lush around the greens. Rest was kinda rough, could be anything from lush to hardpan within a relatively small area.
Traps were poor. Thin with alot of rocks in them.
Greens were deceptively quick. Firm and a good looking dark green. Very nice.
Customer service excellent. Cart gal around numerous times. Well stocked pro shop. Gas powered carts were well below average. No GPS, but they provided a nice yardage book with your fee.
Front 9 was flatter and had more water. Back 9 many holes had elevation changes and was generally more interesting. Roughly a 700 yard difference in the White/Blue tees with no combo tees was a negative.
Layout was average, playing conditions well above average. If it cost $50 I would be recommending it. I realize it is high season here, however... at slightly more than double that for their early morning rate, this course did not come close to justifying that kind of fee on a Wed. morning.
twice the fun!
The front 9 is completely different than the back!!
Front is swing away...pretty wide open, while the back is more hilly and tight!
fun course!
Amazing views
What a great layout. Beautiful views from the plateau tee boxes. Had forgotten what a great course it is.
