Primm Valley Golf Club - Lakes Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
The Lakes Course is one of two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio at Primm Valley Golf Club. It was the club's original layout before it was joined by the Desert Course a year later. As its name would imply, the Lakes Course features an intricate system of lakes and rivers weaving through the layout and coming into play on 11 holes. The layout is challenging but playable with elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers that are balanced by large greens and wide, player-friendly fairways. One of the golf course's most memorable holes is the par-5 second. This challenging 530-yard hole plays around a massive lake but with an accurate second shot, it is reachable in two. There is also water the left of the green and a bunker in front.

Poor condition
Have not played this course in a couple of years and the course condition has certainly gone downhill. Even the local guys that we partnered with thought the same. If the maintenance continues as it is this course will become unplayable.
Its Old
Primm Valley has passed its good days. It needs water and love.
Conditions bad....hope it comes back
Conditions for course were bad, lots of areas recently repaired. Day I played top was super windy. Just played a few holes due to condition of course (greens, fairways and bunkers), plus wind was horrible (30mph sustained). Just didn't make for a fun time as compared to when I played in the here in the past.
February play
Course was in awful shape, looks like it hasn’t seen water all winter. Half of the green were cut up and literally layer with new sections so when you went to roll a putt at the pin you would watch it roll off line in different directions. Was extremely disappointed at the course for 60 dollars on a week day
Son and father
Spent a nice clear sunny day on the lakes part of the course. Started with the range and then onto the course. Great time with my son despite the fact that I’m a marginal golfer. Course was busy and we had to wait on most holes but allowed us to chat more!! We’ll be back!!
Need water
Some of the greens were like putting on bare dirt.
Patch Job, dormant, ugly conditioned course
Have never seen this course in such bad condition. If you like dormant grass and poorly, extensive patched greens, this is the place to go! The maintenance is horrendous, they must have cut back the irrigation too the absolute minimum because they are definetly losing the greens, and fairways that have huge bare spots. Additionally the pine trees are being lost to a desease, probably a boring beetle infestation. The Desert course is in worse condition, and we never saw anyone playing the track. Save your money and go elsewhere, this one has a long road too recovery!!!
Dormant fairways
Played here in December; looked a lot greener then. Fairways are like hitting off of hardpan.
After the round, the attendant offered to clean everyone else’s clubs, but not mine. I didn’t care; i clean my clubs after every shot. If he doesn’t want a tip, that’s his loss.
Worth the Drive
Just about 40 minutes away from Las Vegas, Primm Valley stands alone in the desert and has two full sized, Fazio designed courses to enjoy. On a beautiful Winter day we played the Lakes Course, the older and more scenic of the two and found it to be in pretty good shape. Some of the greens were being re-sodded in places and the fairways aren't pristine, but they're very playable. The greens weren't attractive, kind of muddy-looking, but putted just fine. All in all, the staff does a fair job of maintaining this off-the-beaten-path venue. The last time we played the Desert course it was in somewhat poor shape, but it is closed at the moment and we hope to see it back to an enjoyable state when it reopens.
It's a lot of fun to play here, the course layout is a wonderful blend of all kinds of holes, small elevation changes, bunkers, water hazards and risk/reward choices. It's also affordable, which makes the drive worthwhile. There are enough challenges and thoughtful shots to entertain low handicappers and enough scenery, space and playability to make it very enjoyable for higher handicappers. Two forced carries on Par-3s will try your nerves and hole #10 is an absolute classic risk/reward Par-4.
If you don't demand pristine conditions but can enjoy a well-crafted course with a lot of variety... yes, very recommended.
Better than the Desert Course
Much better course than the desert side, green grass and great fairways/greens.
Nice course
Overall, this is a nice course. However, I personally think some of the multi-tiered greens are extreme to the point of being unfair.
Great track!
The course is in great shape and very challenging.. The greens are difficult, and some areas of the fairways and greens have disease spots.. A much better course than the Desert Course, which is in disrepair at this time.
The greens were in rough shape
Everything was excellent except for a few holes that had extensive patch work. These patches definitely affected the roll of the putts. Other than that it was a great time!
