Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

GREAT LAYOUT! Needs work.
I understand that Bull Run is under new ownership, but the tee boxes and greens are pretty rough right now. Only a handful of greens offer a true line. It's still early though and I have faith in the staff there.
Terrible Tee Boxes
For $92, this place is a joke. The Tee boxes are a mixture of dirt and weeds, not to mention greens were punched and we were still charged full price. (Even if pristine, the course does not warrant $92.) If you can get a golfnow deal for around $45-$50, it MIGHT be worth it.
I would not recommend this golf course to anyone until the tee boxes are improved.
Great course!
Overall the course looks to be great, however we experienced aerated greens and a marathon round of 5 hrs plus. the marathon round could have been attributed to being the first nice day out in at least a week or so.
I would definitely recommend this course as it is a relatively easy layout, yet challenging enough.
poor shape
from tee boxes to fairways, course was in bad shape. The putting greens had been aerated so they were slow, as expected. But around the greens the grass was not smooth or manicured, they even had mulch around the greens for some reason. Got a great deal on golfnow for $23 but def would not play the course again.
great layout, in bad condition on March 12,'03
Despite several days of sunny, warm weather to hopefully dry out the fairways after some light snow and rain, some of the fairways were almost unplayable as balls were buried halfway into the ground upon landing.
The greens were covered completely with sand, I assume for maintenance purposes, so attempting to put was practically futile. The old adage applied the day I played, you get what you pay for.
Other than that, it's one of the best layouts i've played in NoVa and a good deal on GolfNow on a weekday. (I would not recommend playing full price under current conditions).I can see that this would be a beautiful course to play on a nice summer day with drier conditions. Corse is not too difficult for an intermediate player, with wide fairways and trees are not a problems.
To sum it up, excellent layout, but would wait to play under better conditions.
very great course.
When I make an appointment by other website I can't make it.
Beacuse too close time to make a book.
It was just 12 Hours ago to play.
But my friend recommended this web site so, I tried just few minute and then I can make it.
It's so easy make a book and wonderful site for players even who have a second language like me.
Thanks.
Quickly became my favorite course!
Love the layout and location! Challenging but the course can be had! It's forgiving on good shots! Love the locations where its at.
Never Play When Cart Path Only
Should have closed this course for the day on Feb 28th. The entire 18 holes were saturated with water. And having to walk to and from the golf cart made for a dreadful day on the links.
The bunkers were like ground under repair-horrific. Never play this course when it is cart path only. Call first and ask about the conditions before booking. I have played this course when it was dry and on a dry day it is more than challenging. On a dry day it is a wonderful course to play. But never, never ever play it when it has been rain soaked. Waste of time regardless of the decent price deal I had gotten! Wish I had called first before booking online. Know better next time.
Resonable rate by Golfnow.com
It was very difficult to find the main gate by using GPS. GPS told us wrong direction so we enter private house. The houseowner seemed to be very angry because he had experienced unexpected visitors like us. Whole coures are very plain except some courses.
Great layout, lots of room. 5 tee boxes.
I love this course, so my review might be bias. It was a bit wet after all the rain, however, if you are in the area, this is a must play course. Even with the houses being built, the course has wide fairways, some great par 3's and a couple of risk/reward par 4's. The par 5's can be very rewarding, today I played them -1 with a look at eagle on 18. Great staff, excellent lounge/grill area. Practice facility is worth showing up an hour early. Large putting green, seperate chipping and bunker area. Driving range allows you to see all your shots with various flags. #1 is a great starting hole and 18 is one of the better finishing holes, especially if you are on a press. Enjoy!! I do every time.
Bull Run is vastly improved from what I remember
I played Bull Run several years ago before it was part of the Raspberry Falls group and thought it was a good lay out but nothing really special stood out to me. Now it has really been given a new lease on life. It looks and feels like an upscale course and it was almost like playing it for the first time. Beyond flipping the front and back nines it just seemed to have a completely different feel to me.
This round was played in January and I would like to see it in the summer when it is at its peak. Of course along with the improvements came higher peak greens fees but you do get what you pay for. There is enough challenge and a couple risk/reward opportunities to make it worth a higher rate when combined with the much improved management.
I am a bit of bargain hunter when it comes to greens fees but maybe Golfnow will satisfy this need to allow me to play this in the summer with some frequency.
Course offered great value for its price.
Played the course in about 4 1/2 hours. Great condition considering it is winter right now. Some sand on the greens and fairway was recovering from aerification. Overall we were quite happy with the conditions.
This course is a great layout and fun to play.
The course was fun to play as most holes have wide landing areas. However, there was plenty of difficulty on the greens. The course was in great shape considering we were playing in January. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. We'll definitely make the trip back.
I can not even move the bar at all. Only moves at the end of the bar. Don't try this. waste of time.
The course is fine at this time of the year. Staff member is friendly.
Beautiful Location... Horrible Greens
This was my first time playing Bull Run GC and I thought it was a moderately difficult course that requires good course management skills. The location is beautiful and the fairways are for the most part in wonderful condition and the staff is very friendly. The only real issue I had with this course was the condition of the greens. I could not tell if they were recently aerated or the course simply does not roll their greens. You could not get an accurate read for the break or speed because your ball simply bounced along on its' way to the hole. If they could get the greens straightened out, this would be a four or five star course... very nice aside from the greens!
Course has a professional look but not over challenging
Beautiful course. Greens run true and are well maintained. Only flaw is the bunkers. Like hitting out of concrete in some of them, just not enough sand. But stay out of those and you'll be fine. Wide open fairways, beautiful layout, and not too challenging although it will test your game in some areas. Got backed up on the 18th but for 40 bucks on Memorial Day no complaints here. Great bargain will definitely play again!!
Rolling and wide fairways, beautiful view
Unfortunately we could not finish the course because of the snow which started coming down when we were on the third hole. By the time we got to the 10th hole, the green was hard and covered with snow so we could not putt. But we managed to have some fun by counting the number of shots to reach the green... When we returned the cart, the manager gave us rain checks in the amount we paid - something we did not expect.
Course in good shape for late December
I last played this course back in August and it was a little baked. However playing this time in December I was pleasantly surprised to find the course in excellent shape. Fairways in good conditions as well as the greens.
Course is in very good condition. Greens are fast.
Despite a frost delay, we got off on time because Bull Run sent groups off of 1 & 10. 90 degree cart rule was in effect. Fairways were in good condition for Dec. The greens were pretty fast but rolled really well. Bunkers were well maintained. They even had a drink cart going. Many courses seem to shut that down in winter. Overall we had a great day out there and as long as the snow stays away, we'll go back.
Bull Run
A little spotty on a few fairways but it is improving and staff is aware of this. The assistant pros that closed the day were very friendly and helpful. Their friendliness was the best part of the experience.
