About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Wedding Imposition
Everything was good, not great except they had a wedding on site. In my opinion, a huge inconvenience. Poorly marked holes, etc.
Beautiful Course!
Really enjoyed my round at Bull Run. Layout and conditions were excellent. Starter/marshall was extremely friendly, and gave helpful tips on a couple holes. My only nitpick is the layout of #18, which is kinda quirky. My best drive of the day left me with a short shot in to the green, but with a downhill/sidehill lie that was very tricky, especially with a not-so-wide green wedged between a tree and water. Anyway, I'll definitely be back. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth it!
Not bad for the price!
Pulled the plug and played here this morning. The range was in pretty rough shape, only mats to hit from and balls were dispensed out in small numbers.
The conditions of the course were actually solid. Fairway was definitely an advantage to hit from, tee boxes were in good shape, and the greens were really nice! Played here once last year and didn’t like it but this round I enjoyed!
Pace of play was slow due to the 4some in front struggling to find every ball they hit, it was pretty annoying.
Overall, for the price it’s a fun place to play! Back 9 was much harder than the front it I had a lot of fun and almost hit my personal best 82!

Gorgeous Conditions/Fairways - June 2022
Potomac Shores is in FANTASTIC shape right now (June 2022). I mean, like private club conditions. The fairways and greens are awesome. Some of the tee boxes had been punched earlier in the week but the rest of the course was great. We played on a Thursday and I have to say, the only disappointment is that the grill/restaurant didn't open until 12pm.
Slightly annoying for a club of this magnitude. Unrelated to the course, the house building around the course is out of control. Highly recommend playing it NOW before another row of eyesores are added.
Review
The greens were slow. The worst thing encountered is the awful bug problem. You couldn’t stand still because you were consumed by nats/flys. It was awful. Every single green and every single tee box you were attacked by bugs. The course was in good shape minus the greens not having any break and being slow. But paying over $100 a round to have to deal with bugs and below average greens was rather frustrating.
Unusual Golf day
Played on Saturday following a very rainy wet Friday. The course should have been closed or discounted due to water and restrictions. Driving range closed cart path only water in bunkers and very wet fairways. Staff unusually stand-off short non-engaging conversation. Topped off with blocking cart path on 18 due to a wedding requiring a major hike to play out. Not an enjoyable day for full green fee.
Nice Conditions
Played the Sunday before Memorial Day. Great conditions as usual but people not replacing/filling in/fixing divots is becoming an issue.
Bull run
Overall this is a great place to play, the course looked good the cart paths are excellent so your not bouncing constantly the greens were well maintained, and me and the 2 others that was with me was very seldom waiting to tee off at the next hole. It was a great day at bull run for me.
