About
The Lago Vista Course is Lago Vista resort’s original track, designed by Leon Howard in the late 1960s and renovated by Dave Bennett in 1992. The golf course has four water holes, more than 40 bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes of up to 100 feet. Lago Vista is known for its demanding par 3s, which all go right at 200 yards. No. 10 is fun because it can be reached in two: a 495-yard par 5 with a creek that looms right.
Getting to Lago Vista: From Austin, take Hwy. 183 north to FM 1431, then turn west 11 miles. When you come to Lohmas Ford Rd. turn left and drive 3 miles, then turn right on Boggy Ford R. Veer to the right and follow the signs to the golf course.

Worst conditions ever
Played here 5 years ago and course was great. Now, fairways and tee boxes are cow pastures. Greens are unplayable. They should have been embarrassed to charge for people to play there. Only the starter told us on the first tee how bad it would be and he was right.

Not golf
This used to be a great course all around and now has taken a turn for the worst last couple years, this place is looking like the one down the street- not good! Worst greens I've ever seen you can't even putt so basically you're not able to play golf at that point. They obviously don't care for this course at all, in terrible condition and now is definitely the worst course in the Austin area! Lago Vista golf course you should be ashamed!

Save your money
Beautiful views and cool layout is about all you are gonna get. Leave the putter in your car not worth trying with the bunkers they call greens. Seriously if you think I’m being dramatic I’m not. Don’t make the mistake I made and actually read the reviews. Do not go play here go anywhere else in the Austin area.

Dirt for greens
This course just needs to close down. The greens literally have no grass on them, so you are putting on dirt. They look like the infield of a cow pasture baseball field. We were not told about the poor condition of the greens when we checked in. After the first 3 holes we gave up on putting. We quit after playing 9 holes. I would be embarrassed to let anyone play on this course if I was the management. I should have known there was a problem when we paid $20.00 for the round. Overall, this course is poorly maintained. Very disappointing golf outing.

The greens have sand traps
The only course I’ve been to where I had to putt through the beach to get to the hole. I can’t really call them greens. More like the browns.

Beautiful Course
Staff was amazing, course was not difficult but fun and beautiful. DEER EVERYWHERE!! Not being able to bring your own cooler sucked but over all great!

Poor greens
The greens need some serious work. There were large areas of sand throughout the front nine greens which sucks because the course layout is quite nice and I believe this course has good potential.

Greens are awful
Apparently there is a water issue, because the course (greens included) is not being watered. Most greens had more sand than grass. Quite possible the worse course I’ve ever played. Very disappointed that I was not told about the poor condition before booking. Will never return to this course.

Greens are basically bunkers. Awful conditions
This could be a great course. It’s got very interesting hole layouts and features. But man do they not keep up with this thing. The greens have literal sand pits in them. You can’t even tell where there fairway ends and the green begins.

What happened?
What happened? That is the question I'm asking. I'm not sure why the course was so bad to play on. The grass was mostly dead and the greens were REALLY BAD!!!! I have played this course many times in the past and NEVER have seen it like that before. I feel that the whole golf facility needs a remake/make over. The carts are worn down and the courses are not properly maintained. So, this is why my review gives it a Poor rating.

Horrible
FYI, I live on the course and have a lot of firsthand info but typically do not play the course because the condition of the the course is terrible and an embarrassment to our golf community. But on this day I decided to give it a try again to my disappointment. It was the same old story even worse. The greens were horrible, fairways were bad and nothing had been done to level the tee boxes in the 8 years since I lived on the course. I am not sure who is ultimately in charge of running this course but obviously they have no clue on what they are doing. I have watched firsthand the Lago Vista course conditions deteriorate over the last 8 years. The current management would like you to believe the current course conditions are do to the 2021 winter freeze but this is the furthest from the truth. Mismanagement has been going on for years now and it’s just a matter of time before the city runs this course into the ground like they did Highland Lakes. But if you have no problem playing a course and sharing it with the the dirt bikers, ATVs and people who are walking their dogs while you play your ball and no shirts required, this is the course for you.

Worst course conditions ever
Terrible course. Good view, but worst course condition ever. Weeds on the greens, and mini sand bunkers on the greens as well. Will never play again.

What happened to Lago Vista golf course?
This is by far one of the best layouts and the views are outstanding. But the course is in horrible shape and continues to deteriorate. It’s almost unplayable. I won’t go back again which is sad since it’s used to be one of my favorites .

Need a major make over on the green.
The course really needs to shut down the front 9 and repair it and then shut down the back 9 and repair it. OR, shut down the course for a year and fix everything. The fairway is decent. Love it and I am sure it will be much better during spring, but the green is horrible.
