Lago Vista Golf Course
About
The Lago Vista Course is Lago Vista resort’s original track, designed by Leon Howard in the late 1960s and renovated by Dave Bennett in 1992. The golf course has four water holes, more than 40 bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes of up to 100 feet. Lago Vista is known for its demanding par 3s, which all go right at 200 yards. No. 10 is fun because it can be reached in two: a 495-yard par 5 with a creek that looms right.
Getting to Lago Vista: From Austin, take Hwy. 183 north to FM 1431, then turn west 11 miles. When you come to Lohmas Ford Rd. turn left and drive 3 miles, then turn right on Boggy Ford R. Veer to the right and follow the signs to the golf course.

Looking down on # 9 green. and a big buck Photo submitted by hoffmonster on 10/21/2012
Lago Vista GC, BEWARE.
Ordinarily a decent course. Presently the greens are in awful condition. Mostly sand. Very little grass. No notice or warnings. To worsen matters, the pace of play on the back 9 was 'out of control' slow. No rangers. We stopped after 12 holes. Look for another course.
Greens Unplayable
I've played this course about 10 times over the last 3 years and this was, by far, the worst greens condition I have experienced.
Some of the greens were so bad that the ball could hardly move forward in a straight line no matter the lie. It is evident that the City of Lago Vista is having financial trouble keeping this course playable and that's a shame because it's a wonderful hill country layout.
It would be better for the city to close the course for a few months and focus on restoration. If the course stays in this condition they will lose more players and put the course further at risk.
Mixture of experience
1. Weather was freaking freezing!
2. The course layout was really cool.
3. The Browns, (greenss), if it's not ready, why cost so much? And, I've seen reviews, all the talk and no action for the Browns.
4. The view, the bambis, the Lakes... Nice touch!
Beautiful and Challenging
This is a great track. Love the challenging holes and wildlife in the course. Beautiful view of the lake also.
Course is getting better
It seems they are taking the reviews and comments seriously. I hadn't played here for a while but the fairways were in great shape but several greens were under repair which is a good thing, they are trying. The snack bar was being renovated so just microwave food but got a great deal on beer. Give it another try.
Horrendous Putting Greens
No doubt these are the worst Putting greens i have ever played on. There were areas with no grass, other areas where it appeared they used sod to facilitate growth, (never seen sod used on Putting greens anywhere before) and other areas where they sprayed on what looked like hydro mulch. Needless to say Putting was a challenge. In areas with thick grasss, the greens were incredibly slow. BTW, the practice green is a complete joke. Don't waste your time practicing.
Somehow the fairways were in reasonably good condition. Tee boxes were almost as poorly maintained as the greens but since they didn't impact our enjoyment as much I will give them a pass. Course has potential but I will not play there again until they drastically improve their greens.
Nice layout, but terrible shape.
The front 9 was in terrible shape with chopped up greens, rough fairways and awful tee boxes. The second nine was in much better shape and pretty views of Lake Travis....could be a nice course with some TLC....ok for a practice round.
This course is awful
This was absolutely the worst course I’ve ever played. Tee area were very unlevel and basically grassless. Greens were bumpy and grass was sparse. Fairways were mainly dirt with blots of grass. Took us nearly 5 hours to play. 5$ would have been to much to play this cow pasture. Restaurant and grill were both closed. Only saving grace was that the Bud Light only cost $2 per can if you bought 5.
place to practice
Course used to be fairly nice and enjoyable until the city got hold of it. They are drowning the course and I believe they are taking care of their taxpayers like Obama used to. Can't wait for Highlands to open back up under new ownership
Lago Vista TX
Very nice layout with great scenic views. But, the course and greens are in terrible condition.
Help!!!!
The course looks like a pasture with greens thrown in. Sparse grass on most of the fairways. The greens are bumpy any lots of bare spots. This course would be ok if you paid $10 to play there. Since they closed Highland Lakes you would think they would put more into Lags Vista but doesn't look like it
Give this course a pass
Two of us played and the pace of play was excellent as we did not encounter any other golfers. The fairways are brown everywhere this time of year. At Lago Vista there was s much mud as dormant grass. The greens were patched with chunks of grass. The course and clubhouse appeared to need a large infusion of cash. The layout of the course had some pretty views of the lake.
course condition
the course over all is in good condition. greens are in good shape and course is overseeded
Gave up on this course
My group stopped playing here over a year ago as conditions continued to deteriorate. Used to be our go-to location. Now same prices, but horrific conditions. Just look at recent reviews. Management has a we don't care attitude about it as well.
Fun Course
Great layout with superb scenery. Still amazed by the number of deer wandering the course. Would consider only 2 greens unplayable due to fungus damage and other issues. Sand traps are well maintained. Overall, a challenging course with some tight drives and risk/reward holes. Will definitely return when back in town.
Great views and friendly folks
The course was in so-so shape, but hey it’s December! Weather was cold and cloudy, didn’t get much over 45 degrees, so that should be factored in. I’m sure this would be an amazing track to play in the spring!! All in all a very challenging and fun course. Definitely will play again, in warmer weather!
Hackers Delight
Not going to beat a dead horse. Course is in need of some maintenance and crew is making progress. Price is right and is very enjoyable for "lost ball hackers since there is a good pace of play with no one pushing you. Scenic views are great. Not a bad drive from NW Austin. My go to course.
