Blackhawk Golf Club

About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Poorways
Fairways are worse than ploughed fields. Most Greens are poor.
By far the worst course I have ever played.
Will not return.
Horrible - shouldn’t be charging people money to play here!
Course conditions are worse than a goat ranch.
Counter lady rude and hating life.
Greens, most not even worth trying to putt
Some holes couldn’t find your ball on the fairwy
Crab and st Augustine grass everywhere
No signs directing you, t box pushed way up to a par 3 on 10. No signs, no one telling us anything.
I’ve okayed here a while back and hated it but buddy want it because it’s cheap. It was worse this time and I didn’t think it could get worse than last time.
Brutal conditions
I've played here a few times in the last 10 years. It's gotten worse. Bad fairways, patchy grass, craters and sand on greens. Can't say it's worth $40... Maybe $20 a round at best just to practice
Course needs a lot of work, but low-ish green fees.
Course is very torn up. Grass is cut right, but there are many bare patches, including pock marked greens. It had rained 1.5" the night before, so play was delayed an hour in the morning due to high water in the creek / over 2 bridges. They have filled in (grass) many sand traps, supposedly to not have to maintain them. Nice leisurely round of golf, but definitely not a show place. LOTS of wildlife, though.
Decent Course For The Money
I believe it had just rained recently but the grass in certain areas could’ve been better. Overall for the price compared to other courses in the area, it was definitely worth it.
Bang for your buck
What a nice course. They got beer and other drinks and snacks. Course is ok but the price makes up for it. That being said I still highly recommend the course
Perfect for beginners or golfers who need to shake off the rust
Blackhawk is a ~35$ muni, we know what were getting with that knowledge. It stood out to me because this was my first round in a little over a year and it gave me just enough challenge to shake off the rust...nice wide fairways, not too much water, not too many bends...if there was anything I'd ask for beyond what it gave me, it might be to have a little more geography/hills to navigate and a little more TLC on the state their greens (but this is Texas, after all).
The staff was absolutely stellar, too. She couldn't have been beyond college age and she was dropping knowledge on rules and protocol that I after 20+ years of playing didn't even know.
Absolutely recommend this course for beginners or guys like me who only get a round in every few months.
